WMPG-6 High CPU Resources on MPGClient.exe

Post by Adaptel »

I have a WMPG-6 running on Acorn with Windows 11 and I am getting super-high CPU usage on MPGClient.exe whenever CNC12 is running (55-70% on just MPGClient.exe). System often peaks out at 100% and mouse gets jumpy. If I disable and disconnect the wireless pendant, CNC12 runs with TOTAL CPU consumption around 15-35%. Has anyone else had problems with high cpu resources using the WMPG-6?

If I had to take a wild guess what is going on, my PC only has USB 3.2 ports. Having a bit of experience with PC stuff, I have seen some other devices that were designed with USB 2.0 chips have strange issues when connected to a usb 3.x port. Is anyone else running the wireless pendant connected to a usb 3.x port with "normal" cpu usage? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

N150 PassMark is 1911, which exceeds the required 1500 and is pretty common in really low end NUC-type devices. If it does end up a hardware problem, this NUC has dual Ethernet, Windows 11 preinstalled, and an i3-1220P with a PassMark of 3300 for $250: https://a.co/d/9IsRJXu

Looks like the WMPG-6 is a WixHC unit that shows up as a generic HID-compliant vendor-defined device in Windows. It shouldn't need its own separate drivers, or consume a lot of CPU absent a whole ton of activity. I wonder if you have noise/interference at 433MHz? Or maybe batteries in the MPG are low? Seems unlikely, but worth investigating.

My batteries are new. The high CPU usage happens both when the pendant is powered on and when powered off, so it doesn't have anything to do with the communication between the pendant and receiver. I can try removing the antenna, and seeing if the high cpu usage persists (to rule out weather 433MHz noise is responsible). Other than that, I guess I will try to transfer my configuration to another PC (with an Intel i5 processor) to see if it is hardware related to my cheap N150 PC. I am away til monday, but looks there is no easy solution and I need to do some investigating.
