Raytool Bm110 laser, Max Photonics 1.5 kw lasersource

Post by Newbie »

I have an existing CNC Plasma cutter that makes use of UCCNC software and the UC400ETH CNC Controller. I am currently converting this to a Fiber laser table. To date for this conversion I have purchased the following:
  • Raytools BM110 Cutting head with Auto-focus, this also came with a Leadshine H2-506 servo driver for the auto-focus head,
  • Maxphotonics 1500W laser source.
My question is that when converting to the fiber laser system I would like to use the existing UCCNC controller, motion cards, stepper motors and gantry, but there appears to be very little information or possibility of UCCNC working with the new laser components. How can I go about integrating the new components and ensuring they work with as minimal modification to the user interface as possible. I am not opposed to a separate controller for the laser source, but I would like to maintain the automatic height adjustability from the plasma table.

This would be a question for the UCCNC forum, no? This is a Centroid forum and this software wont work with a UCCNC controller anyway.

Centroid supports Lasers and we currently have a Fiber Laser in house and are developing Laser specific software for CNC12

Hi Keith, I've been talking to Joey about this as he had some questions about our fiber laser. It would be cool to see this happen.

Hi CNCKeith,
I Was wondering how the progress is going with the in-house fiber Laser specific software for CNC12. Anytime time frame to report. Was holding off some decisions in the meantime. Last time you posted about this was last February.

Thanks.

we have one OEM in active testing and are just now getting ready to send out-of-our-building CNC12 Fiber Laser ALPHA software to two more OEM's who are building up tables right now for their feedback and further development. we'd like to sign on a few DIY beta testers after that.

If I were building one I'd love to beta test this. Good luck with this venture.

Our 12kw Oree laser is still performing excellent nearly 2 years in now with the Maxphotonics laser head and laser source. The servo hardware is all Yaskawa and the controller is via EtherCat. The Hypcut software was quite the learning curve but I have a handle on it now. I'll be curious to see how the Centroid software compares and the features you implement.

do you use the stage piercing feature of Hypcut? if so always? or just in certain situations?

Yes, in certain situations only. I can punch a hole in any material up to 1/2" thick in a single pierce, after that it's a 2 or 3 stage pierce. 5/8" aluminum is a 2 stage pierce and 3/4" and 1" aluminum is a 3 stage pierce. As you know aluminum is much harder to cut than steel because of its reflectivity. 95% of what we cut is aluminum and we cut it with Air. Our screw compressor will produce 290 PSI at some ridiculous CFM numbers. We rarely use Nitrogen unless the customer asks for it, it's just too expensive to cut with otherwise. There's no difference in pierce stages between O2 and N2. Steel is slightly different but it's easier to cut with Oxygen.

With Hypcut each pierce stage is fully programmable for power, gas pressure, frequency, time, pierce height and duty cycle. I shared this with Joey not too long ago. I sent him some screenshots of the Hypcut pierce setup.
