servo/stepper mix?

Post by neowalla »

Hello everyone, one of my coworkers is selling off some equipment for a CNC build he said he is never going to get to and is willing to let it go at a substantial loss. He has a 3KW liquid cooled spindle I'm interested in, and I think the swap from my 1.5KW spindle should be fairly straightforward...? He also has two servo motors. My CNC currently has steppers. I was thinking perhaps upgrading the X and Y with his servos and keeping the Z and rotating (C) axis steppers. Is this possible, advisable? Is it a can of worms? Would I have to buy another tweo matching servos for the other two axis? I do not have make/model details at the moment, just looking for general answers as to the feasibility of such an upgrade. He also has all the associated motor controllers, breakers, and the VFD for sale.

Possible ONLY IF his servos accept step/direction inputs.
Cheers,

Confidence is the feeling you have before you fully understand the situation.
I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are where they should be.
