Installed 4.20.1 MPG issue?

Post by Fastest1 »

I just did a few things at once and if there is a way to do it wrong, I can find it.
Just got a new pc that I am dedicating to the Acorn. Prior I had been using my laptop and that just never really was convenient.
New pc meets all the criteria. So I load a fresh install of 4.20.1 in the new pc.
Everything loaded fine, licenses all transferred.
I did not do a report on my laptop nor had I updated it.
I reconnected the laptop with the Acorn, generated a report, then updated and ran another report.
With the latest report of the correct version I went back to my newer pc and loaded the freshest restore from the report.
All appears to be ok except the x10 & x100 on the MPG dial alone. They dont work. The jog + & - both work on all axis and step settings, just not the dial. The dial works on x1 on all axis. Weird.

Sounds like you have a probe or tool touchoff tripped.

? What makes you say that? I do have a probe however it is not activated nor being used during this. Doesnt really explain why full step options would be available for the jog+ & - commands but not the dial.

When the probe is tripped CNC12 limits the MPG to 1x movements until it’s not tripped anymore.

Press alt-i and see if your probe is tripped. You can test by actuating your probe and watching it’s input change state. May be that you have a NC probe configured as NO or something like that.

Slodat is just providing a "possible" cause. You do use Input 6 for Probe Detect and Input 7 for your probe.
What are their states in the diagnostic screen? (Press Alt i to toggle it)

I was not denying your point just if that were the case wouldnt all x10, x100 options be negated or disabled? I have full capabilities on the jog buttons just not the rotary dial.
I dont physically have the probe plugged in.
I will check the diagnostics when at the machine.

I didnt verify that it was working on the laptop after the update either. It was working fine via my laptop prior to transfer or update.

You have INP7 (the probe input) inverted, so that CNC12 thinks the probe is tripped if the input circuit is not closed.

Maybe the Wizard is still confused over whether "normally-open" does or does not mean "need inversion"?

That would be his problem Marc.
I had another customer with the same situation. We had to create a dummy plug for the control when the probe was not plugged in. We jumpered the probe detect in on the probe side of the plug.
The new KP-3 will be a much better probe and it uses the same bulkhead connector and cable that the Oak and All in One DC uses. The user will just have to cut off the mini fit connector and hardwire onto Acorn.

Fastest, do let us know if this is your issue....control thinks your probe is plugged in...

Ok, So I too have a separate switch that I push if using the probe. It was not enabled as I suspected.
Pressing Alt I did confirm the switch and probe are operational. When the probe switch is pushed I do only get 1 single step action via the dial or the jog buttons. If the probe switch is off still only x1 on the dial, all speeds available thru the jog button ( I am referring to the controls on the MPG not the VCP) That just made me check the VCP. All controls on the VCP appear to work as they should however I do notice if I select x1, x10 or x100 it automatically jumps from continuous to incremental. I cant remember if it always did that. I can see an argument on that either way.
Btw the probe itself is a Drewtronics. A very nice piece especially for the price.

Yes, if you select X1, X10 or X100 it will automatically put it in incremental mode.
SO, to be clear you issue is resolved?
