Jogging limited to one direction (DYN4 with DMM Cable)
I am finishing up latest build and am having problem with machine only jogging in one direction and with drives enabling on start up.
DMM servos and I am connecting with DMM supplied cable to Acorn Board.
On start up I am unable to jog axis until I reset several times and they I can jog but only in one direction. The travels on all axis are set too 9999 and -9999. I am using DMM4 set up in the wizard. I have a second machine that is identical except for the travels and it does not have this problem It start up allows me to jog to home position and runs program as expected.
Only difference is on this system i have DMM supplied cables and the other system I made the cable and am supplying 5 volts directly from Acorn power supply. Normally when powered up the axis will jog in any direction until home is reached. this second machine will only jog in one direction before or after homing.

Re: Jogging limited to one direction
Try setting the limits to 0 not sure if it will make a difference, but if you set them to zero there won't be a limit on travel.

Go into the advanced tab and INVERT STEP and DIR

Re: Jogging limited to one direction
I've seen this one before and in the past it was caused by the drive not being set to bi-directional travel! Usually just a dip switch on the drive itself.Only difference is on this system i have DMM supplied cables and the other system I made the cable and am supplying 5 volts directly from Acorn power supply. Normally when powered up the axis will jog in any direction until home is reached. this second machine will only jog in one direction before or after homing.
If not set to bi-direction, no mater what direction command you give it, the motor turns the same and only goes in one direction.

Re: Jogging limited to one direction
hello Marty and all.
Update thanks to Marty's suggestion that i check the step and direction pins the motors will now jog in both directions. X and Y Z still has an issue related to the Brake release connection it is a snap in and may have to be changed to a screw in type to make a more solid connection.
On this machine with the DMM supplied Break out cables the drive power up but are not enabled until after I cycle the estop then i can home and run a program no problem. So far checking the step and direction box in the advanced setting seem to fix the problem.

Re: Jogging limited to one direction
I assume you are using Acorn output to control the Axis brake?
There is something wrong with DMM cables. I'm now curious as to which one you have and what it is....

Re: Jogging limited to one direction
Hi Marty
I have what i believe to be latest cable It has a printed circuit board. i wired to their drawing but only one of the 3 wire color matched up to their drawing but I rung them out pin by pin to sort them out. I am using a Acorn relay to release the brake but i think the problem is the DMM connector. Just does not seem to make a solid contact. I am going to work on it Monday.

Update
Using the DMM Board I am moving in both direction the Step and direction Box s are checked in the Wizard setting and the Enable box is checked.Attached is a copy of working report.

Re: Jogging limited to one direction (DYN4 with DMM Cable)
Thing is, I believe it to be a problem with the DMM provided cable.
I have one with the same symptoms. I decided to paint the outside of the house today, so didn't get to it.
Maybe next couple days or after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Re: Jogging limited to one direction (DYN4 with DMM Cable)
What is the correct way to set up the brake, Dmm has a control in the drive. I've noticed when i power up the drives don't lock until I home. I would think that the enable would activate the drive so that they wouldn't move. Been looking for more information on this but when I search i don't see any information, I have a servo with brake but not sure about the proper setup. Currently upgrade the z axis with linear's this weekend and will need the brake to work correctly. Any suggestion will be welcomed.
