Using DP-4 and TT1 to set tool offsets on a knee mill

Post by martyscncgarage »

Supermax knee mill. About 4.25" of travel in Z
What is the proper procedure to use DP-4 touch probe and a TT1 to set tool offsets. Using DP-4 as the reference tool?

Thanks in advance
Marty

Hi Marty

Not sure if this is the 'correct' way for the conductive TT1 on a knee mill but I use my DP4 with the mechanical TT2 (on a turrent mill) as follows:

With the DP4 mounted and connected and the TT2 in its reference position but NOT connected, effectively I touch off the DP4 and set both the reference tool position as well as storing it as tool #10. For sure there are other ways of doing this with the TT2 as its mechanical but as the TT1 is conductive and the DP4 being tipped with a ruby, I don't see any other way for you. Out of interest, this was one of the reasons I finally went for the TT2.

Hope this helps and thanks again for all YOUR help

Nigel
