Build Thread- Tree Journeyman 425 to Allin1dc
Hello, I just ordered my Allin1dc controller to upgrade my Tree Journeyman 425. This is my build thread. I have already upgraded one cnc mill a few years ago to Allin1dc from an older centroid version, so the upgrade was basically plug and play. But this one will be a bit more of a challenge seeing it will have more systems to integrate. Thanks in advance for following and providing any help.
Respectfully,
Here is a link to my photo album. I will add photos as I go.

Re: Build Thread- Tree Journeyman 425 to Allin1dc
I cleaned up the machine and it is super clean now. I will post photos of it asap.
I also just purchased the cap and bridge combo from centroid, 3 Lika encoders from Automation direct and some D9 connector from amazon.
This week, I removed most of the old Dynapath 30 controller from the cabinet as well as a few electrical devices.
The machine had been in storage for many years before I bought it and the rodents had really done a number on the wiring. Lots of rat dropping need to be cleaned up. I was planning on trying to get it running as is, so I repaired what wiring I could and fired it up. It started up, but didnt fully boot up. After a couple weeks of testing and troubleshooting, the next step was either send the control off to ZPS or to just invest in a new control. Seeing I already have a Centroid Knee mill and know the control, I took the plunge.
Honestly, I still need to test the servos, but I trust they will be good. The encoders that were on the machine are 500 line Japanese encoders, so I had to buy upgraded ones. I went with Automation direct Lika A41. They were affordable and should work. There are pics of the document sheet for them in the album.
My plan this weekend is to test the servos, modify the cap to accept the new servos, mount the controller board and power supply, and work on the PC and touch screen.
I hope that I can reutilize the mobile control panel -pic in the album- by using a usb bob or something. Well see.

Re: Build Thread- Tree Journeyman 425 to Allin1dc
USBBOB is capable of all of those functions on the lower panel with the exception of the potentiometers for the spindle speed and feedrate overrides. You'll have to replace those pots with the included encoders to control those functions.
You may or may not have to replace the handwheel depending on what type of signal it outputs.
Please note that the ALLIN1DC version of the software does not have a setup Wizard and will require PLC modifications to use the USBBOB.

Thanks for the info, that’s encouraging that most of the controls will work. Are you saying the usb bob has encoders i can swap for those pots?
Also, where can i find literature on the plc programing changes? Thanks

I bored out the holes for the endcaps today, so the encoders fit. Added a couple pics of the encoders in the caps.

The USBBOB comes with three rotary encoder assemblies with knobs for use as spindle, feedrate, and rapid feedrate overrides.
There is some documentation on the PLC changes in the USBBOB manual: https://www.centroidcnc.com/centroid_di ... manual.pdf

Re: Build Thread- Tree Journeyman 425 to Allin1dc
I was able to wire in the encoders, mount the power supply, cap bridge, and wired in some of those devices. Made some good progress. Unfortunately the db9 connections I ordered were to large to fit into the allin1dc board, so I ordered smaller ones and used the terminal blocks on the side to make the connections when they come in. Pics of the cabinet with devices installed posted.

Re: Build Thread- Tree Journeyman 425 to Allin1dc
Got all the software downloaded and installed onto a nuc i bought from fb marketplace.
I mounted the monitor to the cart which came out nice. Encoders appear to be working fine too.
Need to finish bench testing, then will bolt the servos back in. Moving right along! More pics posted.
