I have a quick check for you to see if the drive FETs are shorted. It is part of the production test procedure that every ALLIN1DC goes through before shipping.


First, make sure all power to the ALLIN1DC is off and that the DC motor power to H2 is disconnected.

Take that Klein MM600 and set it to DC volts and verify no voltage across the Y axis motor terminals and to ground. This is likely header H4.
Disconnect the wiring to the motor from the ALLIN1DC. It is also a good idea to remove the drive fuses for this test.

Set the DMM to resistance mode. Place the black lead on the "Shield" terminal of the Y axis motor header and the red lead on the "+" terminal. You should see "OL" on the meter display. Repeat with the "-" terminal.

If you see something other than "OL" or a resistance into the megaohms then the ALLIN1DC should be returned for repair.

I performed the test and there is no continuity to positive or negative terminal. Says OL on sheild to both terminals.

I disabled the Y motor on the PID, I then connected the Y motor to the X output and tested the motor it and jogged fine, except I had runaway on both directions. The motor is turning in the appropriate direction and the encoder counts are going in the accurate direction as well. I then connected the X motor back to the X output and the Z motor to the Z output and jogged both of those motors. Both motors were also able to jog and both “ran away” in either positive and negative directions when jogged. Again, both motors are turning in the correct direction and encoder counts are going up when the motors are turned counterclockwise, looking down the barrel.

I jogged the Y motor once more just to be sure its jogging and it is while plugged into the x output.

Ok, so I fixed the runaway. I switched the positive and negate power terminals, which solved the problem. I then needed to change the direction of the motor Rotation in the machine parameters. Changed direction reversal from N to Y on all axis. So i think im good to go on the motion for now! Very cool.

Wired in the spindle today with no apparent issues. Fired it up and spindle rotates the wrong direction. I will likely just swap a lead on one of the outputs.

For anyone who is familiar with the tree journeyman mills. Im about to wire in the pneumatic drawbar. I dont have good manuals for j425, so I was hoping for help clarifying some wiring. There are two solenoids on the back of the machine that operate the pneumatics and go straight into the control cabinet. Are these for the tool changer? Or is there a seperate solenoid circuit somewhere in the head? Basically does the switch on the right side of the head operate the solonoids on the back , why is there two solenoids, and can you explain how it works?
The switch on the head appears to just be a two position momentary switch (tool clamp/release) that will need to go into an input of my allin1dc and the solonoids to one or two of the outputs correct? I will post some pics thanks!

I have J325. Here is a picture of the device that opens closes the tool clamp. If you have something similar I can get more info about the wiring

Yeah, i have the same solenoid on mine. Yours looks like it has two as well. I’m just trying to understand what the second solenoid is used for, or do they work together for the pneumatic draw bar?

I marked the one on the right "pressure sensor" Honestly I don't think it's connected. I'd guess that in the past there may have been a warning if the air supply was low
