If I remember correctly the guys on the forum recommended to hook the wires from the drivers to a db25 instead of directly to the acorn board. I’m not sure why that is… I ordered a db25 and it’ll be here in a couple days. I’ll have to look into how you hooked up your thc boards. See if you have pictures on that.

A couple questions.
1 would it benefit any if I changed the wires from the steppers to shielded wires? (I have them) limit switches also?
2 I’ve seen that you should run a ground from the machine to an earth ground.
3. Thc boards where to mount.
4 (from above) db25 board needed?

Sorry pretty loaded post.
a db25 breakout board is needed with hooking up to a stepper drive. , screw terminals are for 24 volt servo connections, db25 is 5 vdc stepper drive connection.

- shielded cables done right never hurts

- a db25 breakout board is needed with hooking up to a stepper drive. , screw terminals are for 24 volt servo connections, db25 is 5 vdc stepper drive connection.

- yes i always give a place for any extraneous current an easy place to go so i install a bond from the machine to earth ground.

the RX board we mounted like this.

and the TX board within reach of the fiber to the RX board.

our test mule cabinet isn't pretty but here is an overview shot of it.

It took me a little bit to figure out the layout so everything fits in the box I’m using. I have it all mounted I’ll wire it tomorrow. There are a lot of schematics, could you point me in the right direction of the schematic to use. I have open loop steppers using the db25 connector and am going to use one limit switch per axis on one input. Also for the plasma I have a floating break away mount with switch.

The way millright had this hooked up was using one stepper for both Y stepper motors. Am I able to do this on the acorn and utilize my 4th rotary axis.

Thank you
Paul

I’ve hooked up the stepper plugs and step and dir wires I tried to find the manual for this stepper driver (can’t find it) I was trying to figure out if it’s a 5v logic which looking at the old grbl board the step is hooked up to pul + and pul - goes to gnd.

So I hooked this up to the db25
Step 1 to pul +
Dir 1 to dir +
And the same for 2,3,4 axis
I’ll continue looking for the manual for this.
I’m trying to hurry and get this done. I’m getting there.

I found this page on my driver

I’ve been researching all weekend on these drives. It looks as though there are 2 common ways of hooking up drives I found this quote
The centroid Acorn works with and motor that accepts Step and Direction inputs. The dm556 can work in common cathode or common anode wiring setups. the Step, Dir ports are step + & - and Dir + & -. On my Smoothieware board I have common negative (Common Cathode) cables and on my SIEG X2 using Mach3 I have Common 5vdc Positive (Common Anode) Cables.

So if I am right the centroid acorn is wired (Common Anode) which has 5vdc positive and the millright that I’m switching from is (Common Cathode) common negative. And the drives I have are 5605D2 which points me to the dm556 which is the same drive.

Use the DB25
Connect +PUL to STEP
Connect +DIR to DIR
Connect -PUL to any pin 18-25 (COM)
Connect -DIR to any pin 18-25 (COM)

Ignore the ENABLE. The drive should be ENABLED by Default

Ok I should have everything hooked up except the torch / plasma tx rx boards . I need to work on the torch/plasma tomorrow and tidy up the wires. I’m trying to hurry. I just want it to be right.

I just finished the bench test. Now I’m doing the pre Windows setup. I haven’t Hooked the plasma wires to it yet. But I’m just about ready for the software. I should have the pc ready for software tonight. So I’ll email you like you mentioned when I’m ready.
