Re: ShopSabre Sidekick 10 Acorn Retrofit
Thanks for the reply Jeff but I have a new Ingersoll Rand air dryer inline with my Powermax 85. I drain the compressor and dryer each time before use. I've never seen water in the bowl on the Powermax. There's no water in the air, it comes out cold and dry. Water in the torch would not cause it to trip off and on over and over for minutes at a time. Even when I test fire the torch to burn out any contaminants or water it just continues torch tripped, torch clear. I replaced all parts at the torch tip and it stopped.jcoldon wrote: ↑Fri Jul 29, 2022 4:36 pm sounds like water in your air . put pepper down fire torch the place paper under nozzle see if water on paper check filter Boal on Hypertherm if you run a pm 85 i run my air at the cutter 112 psi i have Guage on back of the cutter full compressor cycle i stay around 108 when cutting
The main compressor in the shop is set to 150 PSI. That goes into the dryer and then into a regulator right at the Powermax. I have it regulated to 110 PSI and it doesn't budge off that the entire time I'm cutting. The shop compressor is huge.
Anyway, I ended up swapping out the retaining cap with another one and it's working again. Going to inspect the old retaining cap to see what the issue was.

Re: ShopSabre Sidekick 10 Acorn Retrofit
Hi everyone, I just wanted to post that in the coming months I'll be selling my Shop Sabre Sidekick 5x10 plasma table. I am going to be purchasing a 12K watt fiber laser to replace it. The Shop Sabre has been a great machine with the Acorn plasma retrofit but I need more precision that I can get from a standard air plasma cutting machine. I have more and more jobs that require the precision that you can only get from a fiber laser.
What I'll be selling is the 5x10 Sidekick plasma table (water table) manufactured in 2019, it includes a laser sight for XY setting and squaring material, the air scribe for part marking, Clearpath servo motors with planetary gearboxes, the Windows 10 PC is in it's own roll around cabinet with 22 inch monitor, it includes a Hypertherm Powermax 85 with a 25 foot machine torch. I also have an Ingersoll Rand refrigerated air dryer, model number D60IT, that will be included in the price if you want it or I'll reduce the price if you do not want the air dryer.
I'm working on a price and keep in mind that it'll be at least a minimum of 60 days before it'll be available for pickup. The fiber laser is getting ordered from China and manufacturer time along with sea freight can take a considerable some time. In the mean time I'll still be using the plasma for cutting.
Many of you know this was a retrofit from a WinCNC controller and here's a link again the shared Google album for the machine.

Again, I'll work up a price but if your interested or have any questions please send me a message through the forum.
Thanks,
Shawn

Hi Shawn. What Size clear paths are you running? Are you satisfied or would you have gone any bigger? Looking to assemble a table that looks pretty similar to yours.

Re: ShopSabre Sidekick 10 Acorn Retrofit
Hi Joey, I’ll get you the motor info tomorrow. The X and Y motors are mounted to gearboxes but not the Z. The motors came on the machine from ShopSabre so the size was picked by them. They are more than sufficient in power and speed so bigger wouldn’t have made a difference. This gantry is very heavy, way more robust than what’s needed for plasma, and these motors have no problem moving it at very high speeds. Most plasma tables have lighter gantries so these motors will have all the power you’ll need. They have been perfect and with the gearboxes the machine is capable of 1200+ IPM rapids. It’s crazy fast and I had to slow it down as it was too fast. Never had any issues with the motors and I’m a big Clearpath fan.

thanks, wow, they are only 200 watts? thought you'd need at least 400 watt motors to toss that heavy shop sabre around.ShawnM wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 6:06 pmAll 4 motors on my ShopSabre machine are all CPM-SDSK-3411S-ELN-1-7-D

Re: ShopSabre Sidekick 10 Acorn Retrofit
Nope, no brake on the Z axis. It does need one but I have the Z axis enabled all the time, it is enabled as soon as I turn the machine on. It only releases when I power the system down......and when I do shut the system down a 2x4 cut to 8 inches long holds the Z in place like a brake.cnckeith wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 7:27 pmbrake motor on Z?ShawnM wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 6:06 pmAll 4 motors on my ShopSabre machine are all CPM-SDSK-3411S-ELN-1-7-D

I'll have to get the specs on the gearboxes as I dont even know the ratio but the motors paired with the gearbox moves this thing like nobody's business.

Re: ShopSabre Sidekick 10 Acorn Retrofit
great.. we may have to get bigger motors or a gear box for our machine as it has belt reduction of only 3:1.
