Glad you're getting closer Darren. I do not use Inkscape so I'm not familiar with their commands. I tried it once but have been using Illustrator for years and didn't want to retrain my brain any more than I have to. With Illustrator there is a command for "convert to outlines" and when I "save as" and select "SVG" I get many more options and one of those is to convert text to outlines. Keep in mind that once you convert text to outlines you cant go back and edit the text as it's no longer text. I always save a backup of each button BEFORE I convert to outlines just in case. I have a folder with my "master" buttons in it and a template for each color so if I need a new one I can quickly create one from my templates. All with the same uniform shape and font for a professional look. I also draw "rounded rectangles" in Illustrator and I can select the radius. I also like the rounded buttons for a softer feel.
As for your gradient, I have not tried that but another member posted a pic of his VCP with what looks like a gradient buttons. Look back through this topic and you'll see a user posted his VCP with what I think you are looking for. Maybe he can offer up some tips.
Rounded rectangles should work. Text needs to be "Path to Object". Sometimes grouping can cause a problem if the groups are a couple levels deep and generally ungrouping will fix it. Simple gradients work. Any use of filters will not work. Which one of your attached svg's doesn't work?
This is my VCP I have just built the control box but don't have a machine yet as I don't have all the parts to build it. The machine is my own design and will do milling, Laser engraving small cutting and 3D printing. So my VCP is a work in progress as I don't know exactly the work flow and buttons and macros to suit my needs. I am a complete newbie used a lathe 40 years ago and horizontal shaper, never a mill but I have time to try now, but not the money sadly. I will soon make some YouTube videos showing what I have done and also showing the interface board I have designed for proximity sensors interface to suit the Acorn board. I can upload the files if people like what I have done and would like a copy, but I have not finished all.

cool thanks for posting. once done, all you need to do is post a fresh report.zip and that will contain all the files needed for your customizations so anyone else can benefit from them.
