Gecko 214 Wiring Diagram To Acorn
Hello, does anyone have a wiring diagram or photos of the correct wiring? I have read a few threads and am more confused than anything. I have been getting "roughness" in the operation as well as rotations of the motors on power up.
There are many more connections on the G214 that are not shown on the 201 drawings that have been Posted.

follow the 201 schematic.
https://www.centroidcnc.com/dealersuppo ... 977.r4.pdf
and most are overlooking this......when open loop stepper motors it is imperative that the motor, drive and power supply be matched/balanced and configured properly. Be sure to follow the guidance found here from GeckoDrive. https://www.geckodrive.com/support/step ... asics.html
please List your motor make model. Power supply rating and current limiting resistor value.

Re: Gecko 214 Wiring Diagram To Acorn
I have selected the 201, 214 selection from the wizard. Followed the guidelines.
I am using a 48 volt Power supply.
Motors are as follows:
X - Rtelligent - #86AM120 4 AmPs
Y - JMC Motion #86J18156-845(k) 4 amPs
Z - OMC #34HS38-3008S 4.2 amPs

Re: Gecko 214 Wiring Diagram To Acorn
That is quite a hodge podge of stepper motors. Spec sheets for each one would provide the inductance rating.
Square root of the inductance rating * 32 would give you the optimal voltage.
You also have to take into consideration the type of windings each stepper has, whether they are 4, 6 or 8 wire and whether or not you wire in series or parallel if the latter. Parallel is usually best. There are different current ratings for series or parallel hook up.
For those using stepper based systems, Geckodrive provided a GREAT guideline on steppers, torque, power supply sizing and wiring. Everyone should read it and follow it:https://www.geckodrive.com/support/step ... asics.html
Just slapping stepper motors on a machine and arbitrarily choosing a power supply is not good practice. Performance is likely to suffer.

Re: Gecko 214 Wiring Diagram To Acorn
Getting parts during the pandemic has been a challenge. The motors were all the same as the y axis, but when two failed and no replacements for 6 months, optimal outcome went out the window. so your last comment was a bit harsh.

Re: Gecko 214 Wiring Diagram To Acorn
what value is the resistor being used for current selection on the G214 drives? (if you are over driving current to the motor it will be rough when jogging/moving it this is why i ask )

Re: Gecko 214 Wiring Diagram To Acorn
According to the documentation you do not need to use a resistor if you set the amperage using the dip switches.

Re: Gecko 214 Wiring Diagram To Acorn
I'm sorry, but you do need to match steppers to the machine, not only in size but also electrically. I have no idea if you know this or not. I have no idea if the motors are 4,6 or 8 wire or how you have them wired.
Many people arbitrarily buy stepper motors soley based on size and don't take into consideration the other pieces.
Are you in the US or where are you located?

That includes the cut sheets on your stepper motors. Its not good etiquette to ask for help, provide model numbers and expect us to go searching for the documentation.
Have you resolved things or are you still stuck? All the motors behaving the same way?

Re: Gecko 214 Wiring Diagram To Acorn
I am still stuck. I currently have 1 214 working smoothly and I had to Put 2 - 201 back on the machine to get something done. I have 3 new 214 Rev3 just sitting because with 24 different setting combinations could not get them to run smoothly. I also have been back and forth with customer support with Geckodrive for the past 4 months.
