PM-30MV converting

Post by RKM 3D Designs »

hello,
i'm looking to be pointed in the direction of what items i need to purchase electronically from centroid to convert my PM-30MV to cnc.
i have the mechanical side locked down.
i just need help on what items i would need to get the machine moving and run CNC operations.
i would like to utilize a probe to auto locate zero, and integrate the tool height touch off pad as well.

thank you in advance for the help

Much depends on your budget.
You'll need at least
CNC PC Meeting Centroid Miniumu Requirements: https://www.centroidcnc.com/cnc_pc_perf ... ments.html
Many use compact PC's
1080P Wide Screen Monitor. Most use a touchscreen PC, but you can get by with a mouse. If you get the Centroid Wireless MPG you almost don't need one.
Acorn Kit, get started with the Free Software and then most upgrade to PRO License if needed
Axis motors and drives (Open loop or closed loop. Latter are preferred)
Power supply for motors and drives chosen
Way to interface your spindle drive to Acorn. Brad Franco goes over this using a KB Electronics KBSI-240D

Bench test everything before mouting into your cabinet.

We are here to help. BUT do follow these guidelines: viewtopic.php?f=60&t=1043

Good luck with your project.

Try to find out what size motors others are using. If you have the budget, go for closed loop motors, whether hybrid steppers or brushless servos.
Just make sure they accept step and direction inputs.

I've just got my PM 25MV conversion completed and Franco's videos are brilliant and as Marty said, if you get the Centroid Wireless MPG you won't need a touch screen, in the UK it worked out cheaper than a touchscreen.

No. One PS large enough to take care of the three drivers is fine and saves cabinet space. You need to decide what axis motors and drives you are going to use first.
What is your budget for the build.
Budget $1k for PC Acorn & Pro license....

those should be ok.
You have a choice, DC supply or AC supply. AC supply you would just need the transformer.
48VDC should be fine, will affect your rapid speeds. Are you direct driving the ball screws?
Should be OK. More voltage, faster motor RPM. If direct driving, would be neglibible.
You might take a look at www.antekinc.com they have a large number of DC Toroidal power supplies.
