I haven't used the Machdrives but my machine uses the same SEM brushed DC motors and I have the DG4S digital drives controlled by Acorn. Never had an issue. Mine have Heidenhain clone encoders which connect directly to the drives. They also incorporate tachogenerators which aren't used by modern digital drives.

Ok so I hooked the machdrives to the motors and went through the wave build no problem have movement on all axis with working encoders. I dry ran acorn loaded everything and ran not hooked up to anything jogged around with no motors attached no problem. Now I have attached acorn to Machdrives ... with an e-stop only. I go to jog the motors and acorn moves on screen but not the motors. The machdrives enable but nothing. I ran the wizard on pins benchmark and then tried it on g201 just to see if it changes.

I believe you will have to use the DB25. The step dir pins are at +5vdc logic level

The header pins sink...

Get a DB25 male breakout board from Amazon

I butchered an old plug to test and that was it worked like a charm Amazon plug will be here Monday
