Wizard Functions | Axis4BrakeRelease
Hi All,
My 4th axis drive motor holding torque gets over come by cutting forces on larger parts.
I have an electromagnetic brake to install on the drive pulley that will provide 30x the holding torque. (thanks Dale x2)
I'm not too familiar with the built in acorn wizard functions, so looking for help on using:
Axis4BrakeRelease
From --> https://www.centroidcnc.com/centroid_di ... ctions.pdf
With the hardware wired correctly, relay set to NC, and the wizard set to control the output for the brake, will Acorn simply control the brake on it's own?
Meaning the there is no additional G-Code needed in the program.
I was thinking I would have to modify the post processor to additionally control the brake during 4th axis moves.
But after further consideration, I'm thinking with the wizard properly configured, that won't be necessary.
Please advise.
Thanks!
Chris

I am not the expert, but this makes complete sense to me. I am in a similar situation. Will be watching.

Re: Wizard Functions | Axis4BrakeRelease
The function of axis brake release is during power up the circuit is open, an axis motor brake is normally applied with no voltage.
As soon as motion is called for that axis (Home, MDI, Jog that axis) that output will close, energizing the brake and releasing the motor. IT will stay in this state until there is a fault, Estop or power down.

Re: Wizard Functions | Axis4BrakeRelease
Thanks for the clear explanation Marty, makes good sense for my inverse Polish notation mind ....
I'm excited to get this working. Just need to finish the current job on the mill, and will remake the mount for the indexer to accommodate the brake components.

Re: Wizard Functions | Axis4BrakeRelease
What version of CNC12 has this functionality?
The document say v4.5 with a date of 2/28/20 --> Acorn CNC12 v4.5 Acorn Wizard Input and Output “canned” PLC functions and M codes rev2 2-28-20
When trying to set the function to the output I have wired, the function was not visible within the Wizard.
I have CNC12 v4.12 installed.
Thx

Wow, you need to get upgraded to 4.20.1citterly wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 9:07 pm What version of CNC12 has this functionality?

Take screen shots of all your 4.12 wizard screens, print them out and do a fresh install of 4.20.1

Re: Wizard Functions | Axis4BrakeRelease
OK, thx
Just to be sure I'm understanding, the new functions, Axis4BrakeRelease specifically, will be available with 4.20.1 ?

Re: Wizard Functions | Axis4BrakeRelease
Just remember, the brake release turns on as soon as the axis is called to move. (Jog, home, MDI)
It STAYS on as long as there is no fault. It does not turn on and off.
