I would like to update to CNC12 4.20.1

I’ve watch cnckeith’s videos but I’m caught in between an original install and update. I presently have CNC 4.18. installed with my Pro mill lic. I was following Marty’s setting up DMM Dyn4 4.18 only YouTube video. I noticed in the the Navigation folders on my installed CNC 12 4.18 does not have the folder for DB25 mapping? So I can’t select “screw terminal”. I have been able to get one axis to move intermittently with the CNC12 4.18 software. I believe the problem is I’m not able to select the ”Screw Terminal” setting. I’ve tested the DMM Dyn4 servos with DMMs program and everything is good there. So I thought let’s update to 4.20. How do I get my Pro license into the new install Any help is greatly appreciated.

I may be going against conventional logic and the programmers intentions, but I always do a clean install and hand enter my settings. Experience with multiple control systems has shown that each version is likely to have a few tweaks that make a "clone in" easy button problematic. I have a small folder with screenshots to ensure I dont make too many mistakes!

As advice, I would say this goes double for version changes.

I think that’s the best for me also. I’m not sure what steps to take? I can install the latest version. I don’t know if there’s anything special I need to do to get my Pro license out of one version and into the new version. I’m tempted to just install the latest and see how it goes.

all you need to do is copy the file license.dat from the 4.18 folder to the new C:\cncm folder. When CNC12 starts up it will look for that file and enable the Pro version.

Always post a report when you post.
I believe DB25 mapping is in the ADVANCE tab.

Firstly, make a report to a thumb drive F7 Utilities, F7 Create report.
Second, make a report to CNCM\reportbackup
Third, using Windows 10 file manager, find the CNCM folder, right click it, select copy.
Fourth, while in C: anywhere on the screen, right click and click PASTE
You should see a new folder that says CNCM - COPY
Fifth, right click on the CNCM - COPY and click Rename. Rename it to CNCM 4.18
If things go wrong or you want to start 4.18 for some reason you can rename this Folder back to CNCM and you will be back to version 4.18
6th, Use Windows Control Panel to UNINSTALL CNCM
7th, Download and install a fresh copy of 4.20.1
8th Start 4.20.1 and let it update Acorn's Firmware.
9th, It should start CNC12 4.20.1, if you get an error after the firmware has updated, don't worry, just close, power down Acorn, restart Acorn and then start CNC12

I agree with Gary. You can start from scratch. Use Windows SNIPping tool to take screen shots of all your Wizard pages and then print them out. You will have what you need to enter everything in manually.
You can try to RESTORE from REPORT once you have 4.20.1 installed

Start CNC12 4.20.1
Insert your USB drive you made a report to before you started all this.
Press F7 Utilities
Press F2 Restore Report
Point it to your USB drive with the Report file and select it.
Once done, Shut everything all down and power it all back up
Start CNC12 4.20.1
Open the Wizard, click WRITE SETTINGS (this is necessary)
Shut down CNC12, power down Acorn and restart Acorn and the CNC PC

Restart CNC12 4.20.1
Go into the Wizard and check all your settings (using your 4.18 Screen Shots)

Keith's video is accurate. Let us know how you make out. BUT besure to create a report to a thumb drive, create a report to c:\cncm\reportbackup, and make a copy of your current (4.18) directory. You will have all these to fall back to if needed.
