Probe malfunction after upgrade <resolved>

Post by Fueler1 »

Sigh,
Got the Windows 10 upgraded.
Got the centroid 12 upgraded or so I thought.
No real instructions on what to do or not to do that so I just went.

My MP4 probe now does not work correctly.
I was manually touching down to find the top of a piece.
Once the probe touches the little light goes from green to red. All normal.

BUT Now, when it goes touch/red it cannot be moved move back up (z+) via the mpg.
I can move it back up via the control panel
This is not normal.

Just musing. This acts like it does when doing a part setup, Z setting, auto measure.
In that sequence it goes down, touches, stops and sets the part z height.

Ideas?

Thanks

According to the CNC12 v4.12 release notes:
Added mpg probe protection. When the probe is tripped, the MPG only works at 1x speeds
Does the Z in fact move up when you use the MPG handwheel, but very slowly?

It does not move up at all.
I can twirl the knob all day and nothing.
Confirmed via the readout.

Somewhere along the path I did see a probe tripped notice flash by.
it can only be moved up via the panel button Z+ button.

Have you tried with the MPG increment set to "x1"? (rather than x10 or x100)

Just did. That allows it to move. Thank you
I do a lot of poor man cmm measuring with the probe.
I will have to look into turning this safety feature off in case I prefer living on the edge.

Edit:
On reflection I can kind of see how this feature came about.
I had a situation where the Z made a fast uncontrolled move down, destroying the stylus and damaging the probe.
I don't remember the reason for it but I remember that I could not get to the big red button fast enough.
IF this feature can react fast enough that would have saved me a chunk of change.

Thanks Marc and Gary
