Re: Bridgeport Spindle Encoder Design
Sorry, I don't remember the keyway dimensions but I do remember having to make stepped keys. The variable speed sheaves on both the motor and spindle had larger than standard keyway widths.
Cheers,
Tom

I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are where they should be.

Re: Bridgeport Spindle Encoder Design
Hi, Tom
Thanks for the inspiration, i was thinking how to add a spindle encoder, i'm currently setting up a Closed Loop vector drive VFD on my MICROCUT MB20 Bed mill Refurb
using the following parts:
RLS RM44 Encoder: RM44IC0012B10F2E10
RLS Magnet Actuator: RMH06A3A00
WEG CF700 7.5kw VFD: CFW700B17P0T4DB20C3
Here is a progress video, Acorn with 1KW DMM DYN4

Re: Bridgeport Spindle Encoder Design
Tom,
I am going to go ahead and order the encoder parts to do this to my mill. The part number for the reader head matches yours when I configure on the RLS website, but I get a slightly different number when configuring the ring.
Your number is: MR050C040A072B02
but I end up with: MR050C040A072A02
Seems I have no choice but to select MATERIAL: "A - Stainless steel hub with bonded rubber tape" and SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: "With back adhesion tape".
Is it possible that some option has been discontinued between when you ordered and now? Will this configuration still work? (Not sure what "with bonded rubber tape" does)
Also, regarding the reader head, you said the interpolation factor for 06B is 32 in a previous post on this topic, but the site says 06B is 64. (my configured part number matches yours though, RLC2ICA06BC00A00)
Can you confirm that what I intend to order is in fact correct for the project? MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Re: Bridgeport Spindle Encoder Design
Tom,
Regarding the magnet configuration:
Apparently option "B" ( [ B] - Stainless steel hub with vulcanised elastoferrite layer [02]) is no longer available.
I can only select option "A" (A -Stainless steel hub with bonded rubber tape)
I honestly don't know what the difference between the two is, or if it would prevent me from replicating the installation you have done. Any advice?
This is the only question holding me back from clicking the submit order button from the RLS website.
Appreciate your response, and Merry Christmas!

Re: Bridgeport Spindle Encoder Design
I've installed it on 3 machines and it works perfectly. Haven't had to do a thing since installation.
Cheers,
Tom
