Generator G code

Post by rmfiorotti »

Friends, I recently bought the Acorn board and I would like to know the best software to generate the G code, currently working with ArtCan 2018.

Thank you.

What type of cnc machine is it? Also what type of work are you using the machine for?

What is wrong with Artcam, from what I've read it should work for what you're doing. Artcam should generate the gcode so I'm a little confused with what you're asking.

I'm using Vectric V-carve and it's really easy to use. Alot of it is going to depend on your skill level with cad and cam and what you like to use. There's so many different options and it's going to come down to what works for you.

Just try out some of the ones that are in your budget and decided what you like the best. After using the two big ones in my opinion for routing, Vectric and Fusion 360 I prefer Vectric and that's what I bought. The only problem with Vectric is it's really more for artistic type work and might be limited for molds. You might be better off with Fusion 360 or if you have the budget my preference would be solidworks. Some guys love Master Cam but it's very expensive and has a steep learning curve.

Rogerio…
Unless you have some very intricate machining requirements, ArtCAM and it's new "reincarnation" named Carveco (which happens to be intro priced @ $1600) are probably the best programs for CNC routers there are. To get better in the pure engineering/machining field you will need to move up to the GIbbsCam, MasterCAM, etc.

Gary what do you like better Artcam/carveco or Aspire? I didn't know that Artcam was relaunched and I've been looking at upgrading to Aspire. The price difference wouldn't be much between the two since I already have V-carve Pro.

Thanks,
Dan
