Motors wont turn

Post by fredrik »

Hello.

I am retrofitting a Dynamyte 4400 mill with Acorn.

I am having problems with my stepper motors and drives. When I start up everything, acorn program and stepper drives, the motors wont turn. I can hear one clicking sound from every motor when i try and jog them. After that one click they are completely dead. If i reboot the drives everything works just fine. If i press the E-stop then i have the exakt same problem as when i start upp the program and drives from the beginning. I have to jog one of the motors in the program befor i reboot the drives, and then i can reboot the drives to gett the motors to work.

The drives and motor are completely new and they are all having the same problem. Here are a link on the drives and motors.

I am using Leadshine DM Series Schematics

Is there some adjustments in cnc12 that can fix this problem?

Or are these drives not compatible with the Acorn?

Not enough info.
As Keith said, screen shots of your Wizard pages. And of the main CNC12 screen after the issue occurs. (Use Windows 10 Snipping tool) Post a report from the Utility section of CNC12.
Video clip would be very helpful.

I can hear one clicking sound from every motor when i try and jog them.
The software starts up in incremental mode (or at least it did at one time) so have you pressed the "CONT" button so you can jog continuously?

It's been so long since I set up my two machines I can't remember but I think you can now set a preference to start in CONT and maybe also a slow or fast jog. I've done too many things since I set those machines up! And I'm old!

Hi Dave,
That's why it's good to get a screen shot of the main CNC12 page. Shows us any messages in the dialog box as well as the way VCP is set.

I hear you about remembering! I've done so many projects, answered so many posts and comments, sometimes I have to go back and watch my own videos! LOL!😂

Here are screen shots of the wizard the report.zip and also a short clip. In the clip you can se the motors are running fine. And thats after i have rebooted the drivers after the first startup. When i press the E-stop and clear it then the motors wont run and the program is not giving me any faults, and this is how they behave if i dont reboot the drives from start.

This is the schematic that im going after.

Here it is on Youtube.

I didnt take a screenshot of the main cnc12 screen but i can do that later today if thats necessary. You can se that there is not showing any problems on the screen in the clip.

What are you running after you home the machine?
What is connected to Relay1 since you have it assigned to No Fault output?

Your X axis is also homing incorrectly. In the Wizard screen shots you show it configured to home in the positive direction but in the video it moves in the negative direction. You need to reverse axis rotation for X and set it to home to the switch in the negative direction and move your soft limit value to the positive box and make it a positive number.

Let us know what you have connected to the output 1 relay and how it's wired.
