running on external monitor? <answered>

Post by mhackney »

My Lenovo PC is perfect except it does not have a touch screen. I have a nice industrial touch display hooked up (6:9 aspect) and it works nicely as an extended desktop. Is there a way to coerce Acorn-F (lathe Pro) to display on that monitor?

cheers,
Michael

Wouldn't that be more likely to be handled by the pc's video settings?

No, the issue is when I launch the app it appears on the built in monitor and the windows can not be moved - at least the main window can not. The VCP can be undocked and dragged to the other monitor but I want both on the second monitor.

Well, I can partially do it. There is a display option to make the external monitor the primary. This will at least put the control software on the touch screen but it is not ideal in that it also puts all desktop icons, etc on that monitor. I suppose one could argue that I could just drag all those over to the built-in display but that is more friction than moving windows around and I would prefer other apps to open on the built-in display rather than have to drag them every time.

Instead of choosing "extend desktop to this display", choose "duplicate desktop on this display". That way both displays will have the exact same thing.

Thanks Tom, but that is not what I want either. I simply want my primary display to be the built in and have the control software displayed on the external touch screen. If I can't do it, no troubles, it just surprised me that I couldn't move the window.

Try Shift + Win + Left / Right will move the window to the other monitor, but unless the monitors are the same resolution, it might resize it and I don't know of any way to re-maximize it. Give it a try.

Tom, you sir are a genius! It works perfectly and I learned something about Windows. I'm not a native Windows user.
