Yes, I'm in the US.
I chose this NUC because it's fanless and sealed. My plasma environment has lots of humidity and very fine steel dust. Kills a fan cooled computer in about a year. I'm trying to get past the annual computer buy. USB cables are also a problem. That's why I am happy the acorn board uses Ethernet. The acorn will be placed in a filtered box along with the other dedicated electronics.

Ah, I see, makes perfect sense.
I agree. I'm not a fan of USB for machine control.

Hi, while waiting for UPS to deliver my acorn and cnc12, I poked around this forum looking for interesting topics. I found a thread on auto squaring and came away with a couple questions. I hope it is appropriate to ask them in this thread. The questions are almost the same question. Anyway, here goes.
1. Will I be able to do auto gantry squaring / software paring on my two stepper motor gantry with the CNC12 software?
2. Will I need to upgrade to the PRO version of CNC12 to do the auto squaring?

My NUC is in and CNC12 Pro is installed. I am working on the THC now. Still need pots and switches which should be delivered today.

After dealing with Mach 3 and LinuxCNC for years, I must say Centroid is Light years ahead. Up and running bench test in a matter of minutes instead of days as with those other products. There is much to learn about Centroid but I am confident it is a very solid product. I can't find the words to properly describe the difference.

The difference is the software is proven, and the hardware is solid. Most importantly BOTH come from the same manufacturer so they are designed to work together.

The other benefit is that the team at Centroid are talented and very knowledgeable. I've had the privilege of meeting many of them in person. They care about the control and listen to their customers.

Marty, I just brought a emcoturn 120 home last night. I have been following your work and am excited about updating this machine much the same way you have done your 120 and other emco machines. Because i still need to finish the acorn conversion of my plasma table, i am only collecting components for my emco at this time. Given this, I do have a question and would like your response please.
I plan to source the 5hp a.c. motor first and am confused about which rpm rating is best for the lathe update. I think my max rpm will be under 4000. Should I look for a 1750 rated rpm motor or would I be better off with a 3800 rated rpm motor? Also, are you still happy with the VFD with breaking resistor you chose?
Thanks
RonE
