thanks dannyb
i realised the acorn would be under specd once i watched afew more youtube videos and looked over the specs again,
ill probably still start with an acorn and be abit less ambitous with my wants then upgrade to the oak and the acorn can go onto a plasma table or another project ...

Re: is this vfd suited to mill turn axis drive for small diy lathe build?
this was my intial plan also but then someone said i may have issues with having to disconnect the function/drive of the motor not in function
ie via clutch or some sort of mechanical coupling when spindles running the servo is free
or when servo is running the spindle drive is disengaged.
this ...

SERVO SPINDLE MOTOR OPTIONS MILLTURN CAXIS LATHE
HI
my mind is melting trying to figure out what servo spindle options i can use to power my cnc lathe conversion
it currently has a big old 10hp 3 phase motor and belt drive to the gearbox input but looking to drive straight to the rear of the spindle
have been looking at chinese servo spindle ...

Re: CNC retrofit (manual lathe) with X,C milling/driling
Ok thanks Marty.
I have been doing more research and contacting local suppliers to get my head around the options of the spindle control/movement.
May well be too ambitious but I will hopefully be able to make it happen as a millturn lathe to buy is out of my budget for my business currently.

Re: CNC retrofit (manual lathe) with X,C milling/driling
Ok thanks for the reply
Is this possible with the original 3 phase drive motor with a VFD and a suitable encoder+mechanical/pneumatic brake to hold the axis for milling ?
Or would I need to change it to a specific servo/spindle drive in 1 to replace the original motor.
Another thing is if I ...

CNC retrofit (manual lathe) with X,C milling/driling
Hi From Australia
I'm looking at the option of a retrofit on my Dean Smith and grace manual
lathe.
Looking at the oak board and I'd be aiming for C axis servo and possibly
fitting a driven tool/multiple tool arrangement on the back of the cross
slide for XC milling/driling.
I'm just not sure what ...
