Move to different hardware
Hi everyone,
I've decided to move my lathe version of Acorn to a different PC. Is there anything I need to do?
I currently have Acorn installed on an IBM Thinkcentre, after reading the recommendations here, I'd like to switch to an iNTEL NUC. I have a NUC7i5BNK to use. Windows 11 is installed on the NUC.
Here's the way I'd imagine it to work:
1/ Setup the NUC with the same IP config as the Thinkcentre
2/Install CNC12 V4.82 on the NUC(This is the version I have on my Thinkcentre)
3/ Create a report on my Thinkcentre installation of CNC12
3/ Restore the report created on the Thinkcentre to the NUC
Of course, sometimes imagination and reality can differ
Is this how it will work, or are there other steps needed?
Thanks for your help. (report attached (a first))

Re: Move to different hardware
The easiest way is to just copy the CNCT and Intercon directories from the old drive to the new one. No need to reinstall anything or restore reports. Be sure to run the tuner and check for communication errors.
Cheers,
Tom

Thanks Tom,
I didn't even consider that option, since i thought the system registry would be populated with lots of software specific entries.
I'll do it this morning and let you know how it goes.

You'll have to set your Ethernet adapter fixed IP address as well.
Cheers,
Tom

Re: Move to different hardware
Yes, I have multi-homed the Ethernet adapter to a local address as well as the one on the 10 class c sub net that the Acorn needs. That part all works thanks Tom.

Re: Move to different hardware
All good now, the settings for the Acorn transferred over once I copied the CNCT folder over to the NUC. I also transferred the cncfiles and icn_lath folders as well. Do you know what these folders are for / from?

Re: Move to different hardware
what is the question?
also would be a great time to make the leap to the latest version of CNC12.

Re: Move to different hardware
Oh, sorry Keith, I have the following folders c:\cncfiles and c:\icn_lath. I wasn't sure how they fitted in, or if they are redundant. I copied them accross to be on the safe side, but I'd prefer to remove them, if they're not needed.
