Re: My home build - so far so good
Cool, thanks for posting! Are those billet lowers for a specific GBBR system? I used to be into airsoft when I was younger and I still pull out my stuff from time to time.

Re: My home build - so far so good
Hi,
Good to know that AS does stretch far and wide .
Not for GBBR, I've developed a recoil system for the PTW platform which gives all the features of GBB. The lower is my version of an MCX (no trades etc) but from a distance it looks pretty close and I have an upper to match it which I machine on the 4th axis, just using as an indexer.
Its all good fun .
Cheers
Andy

Re: My home build - so far so good
Hi Guys,
So the machine is working really well, I've setup a network cam over it now so I can just push the button and live a normal life (semi normal). Here's were I'm getting to. At the weekend I'll start to convert the old tool paths from the old machine to the centroid and make a start on the upper receivers. The video shows the original (prototype) upper receiver on one of the new lowers machined on the centroid controlled machine. It fits perfectly which is great, so its pretty dam good.
I'm sure your bored with my build now as its no longer a success story but a proper production machine so I'll probably bow out now until the next build which might end up being a mill turn machine or at least a lathe with a machine over the top of it .
Cheers
Andy

Re: My home build - so far so good
Hi Guys,
After several months of using the machine.............. I'm a lifelong advocate of centroid.......... I now have a semi normal life, it runs, and is100% trust worthy . I can load up a blank, press GO, and leave her running. The video shows a pretty short run on a part of only around 30 mins, but I run parts up to 7 hours indexing around many axis and I completely trust it.
For me its pretty amazing, but more importantly, my wife still loves me .

Yeah, that is what I am doing also, clamp the part, hit cycle start and walk away

I love it .
The next build will be a lathe, so I can gun drill some outer barrels for airsoft, watch this space

Sure, I have a lathe with Acorn6, 4 axis and live tooling. Cool addition to a mill.

Re: My home build - so far so good
I have to say though that I know nothing about CNC lathe builds, my current lathe is a mini lathe 7x14 china made .
I have a question though, it may seem a bit silly but i'm just a child when it comes to lathes.
"why would you build a slant bed lathe" rather than one which was at 90 degrees, why is that???????

Re: My home build - so far so good
Slant bed needs less room, and the chipflow ist better.
