How to wire Huanyang VFD to Acorn to control spindle speed?

Hi All,

After a year of delay (new job, life changes) my CNC build is back on track. This is my first CNC build, so some common-knowledge things are unknown to me.

I'm almost done wiring the control panel and am stuck on how to wire the VFD to the Acorn controller to be able to control the spindle speed in the CNC12 software. I've seen some posts that say to use the 10V output. Others say to wire RS+/RS- from the VFD to inputs/outputs on the Acorn.

What is the correct way to wire this please? I have the standard Huanyang 2.2Kw spindle.

Aside from performing the basic PC to controller bench test, I haven't done any other Acorn wiring or configuration yet. Thanks very much.

1.) perform the spindle analog output bench test
use the included spindle bench test macro and follow the instructions in the Acorn install manual on page 30

2.) Wire like this.https://www.centroidcnc.com/dealersuppo ... 984.r3.pdf

3.) Program the VFD

4.) search on Acorn forum for 'yang' happy reading

Thank you, Sir! Greatly appreciated. I watched many of Marty's videos a year ago and forgot about that one..

CNCKeith: The link to your "wire like this" doesn't work. Is there anything different or additional to what Marty does in the video? Thank you.

That video is 5 years old and not relevant anymore. The Acorn install manual has the spindle bench test procedure in it starting on page 30. Follow this procedure. There's a macro written just for testing the spindle output. It's far easier and CURRENT.

thanks, my mistake.
yes follow the included spindle bench test macro and instructions in the Acorn install manual.

Thanks very much, ShawnM and cnckeith. This is more complicated than I thought. I can absolutely follow that wiring diagram, no problem, but I never would've figured it out by myself, so I'm very glad I asked!

I'll need to run more wires between my Power/VFD cabinet and my Acorn/Driver cabinet. They are right next to each other and connected by metal conduit, but still two separate cabs.

its important to have right vfd cable and proper grounding/shielding etc.

google vfd cable. look for videos by southwire

buy cable at automation direct

Thanks for the tip on the VFD cable. I bought a premade16gauge double shielded cable from eDealers Direct Automation on EBay. This one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/144247023611?i ... SwOuRhaFOa

Bought a 25-foot version and will cut it to length. I can solder, but I can't solder 16ga wire into tiny terminal cups. Not like this guy can, anyway. Money well-spent IMO.
