Acorn 6 after Select Drive Type DYN4, Estop and Magnetic Contactor don't work?

Post by PrestonE »

Hello Everyone,

Well Chuck with Centroid helped me get the Estop and Magnetic Contactor troubles worked out and everything
tested out well.

Until this morning after wiring in the First DMM DYN4 we went into the Wizard and did the following:

1) In the Axis Drive Type we Selected the DMM DYN4
2) Then we went to the bottom and Pressed the "Load Drive" button and got the message

"Do you want to overwrite the current Info or something to that vein." and said yes.

3) Upon Saving that Configuration and Exiting the Wizard we go back to the control panel.

Now, the Estop will not Release when pressing the Reset on the Screen even though the LED on
IN8 is Green and NO on the Acorn Board.

However in PLC Diagnostic's The IN8 is Red and NO

Also, IN5 LED is now Green, yet it is not connected to anything per S15164dwg
https://www.centroidcnc.com/dealersuppo ... 164.r1.pdf

However, If we press the Physical Estop... Now that will Release the Reset on the Screen and the
Green LED on the Acorn Board goes from Green to Red and the PLC Diagnostic goes from Red to Green.

But, in No Case does it Engage the Magnetic Contactor to Power the DYN4 drive as it Did Before doing
the Motor Configuration.

Attached is the Latest Report.

Any ideas are most welcome, as if I cannot get this resolved shortly it is back to paying for Chucks help
yet again.

Very Best Regards,

Preston

Hi Preston,

First, the "reset" button on the VCP is NOT THE SAME as the e-stop button on the machine. Two different buttons and one has nothing to do with the other.

You have 2 inputs setup, input 5 and input 8. Five is Drive OK, which detects a drive fault, and input 8 is your estop. The only way to reset the estop is to release the mechanical estop button.

You have no outputs wired. This is typically how the contactor is engaged, through an output setup as "no fault out".

When you load a drive from the list you also load the programmed inputs and outputs associated with that drives saved parameters. There's no real reason to use the preprogrammed drive list other than for bench testing. It's far easier to setup your own custom drive so that it saves your inputs and outputs. Then you can save that drive as your own in the custom list.

How was the contactor wired? Do you have pics in a google album we can see? Start a google album and keep all your pics in one place and share a link here with us to see it.

Hola Shawn,

1) Ok, that is the First that I have heard of the VCP is Not the Same as E-Stop... Thanks for that!!!

2) I Do have Output 1 wired as per S15164.dwg and it was Enabled before I did the Drive Config.

3) Ok, so by Loading the Drive from the List I screwed up my Inputs and Outputs...Great!

4) The Contactor is Wired as per S15164 and worked before the change in #3 above.

I am guessing that there is Not a Way to Restore Back to Previous System that Worked somewhere?

Here is a link to my Google Album.

Best Regards,

Preston

Hello Preston,

There is a way to restore a previously working system configuration from the same CNC12 version using the Restore Report feature in the Utility menu. Do not restore report from version to version i.e. 5.02 to 5.06. This, of course, relies on having a report generated from that working configuration.

Identify a report file from before the changes were made and press F7 (Utility) -> F2 (Restore Report) and navigate to the report .zip file.

Hola Preston.....

Thanks for the album link and pics.

Set output 1 in the wizard to "nofaultout" and save those settings. Restart CNC12 and when you press the "reset" button on the VCP (which is what? Not the same as the e-stop button :D ) relay 1 should latch and enable your contactor.

Yes, when you loaded the stock DYN4 drive it over-wrote all your settings that you already had. I never recommend users use those stock settings, the only time it's used is for bench testing to get the Acorn working. I always create my own custom drive file and save it. It saves all your inputs and outputs as well.

When you get a few things working create a new report and save it to a folder. Then when you get a few more things working create another report. Delete old ones if you want. This is the best way to save your settings so if you screw things up you can simply restore a known good working report.

As stated by Centroid, only restore reports that are from the same version software.

Hola Shawn,

Ok.

1) I set Output 1 in the Wizard to "nofaultout"

and Restarted CNC12.

The Reset button in the VCP now does Nothing,

But, if it Push the Manual E-Stop the Contact Engages and the E-Stop is Removed. Exactly
the Opposite of what we want.

And Input 8 which is E-Stop is set to NO as it should be.

Thus, I am confused??? as the E-Stop is an NO switch.

Report Attached.

It depends on the type of estop you bought. Is it NO or NC? Sounds like it's NC if you push it and it removes the estop signal and it's set to NO. Some have dual contacts and are both. I'd recommend a NC estop to trigger Acorn. It sounds like the estop is configured wrong.

When you start CNC12 the first thing you do is press the "reset" button on the VCP. This homes the machine (however you have it home) and if there are "no faults" in the system then relay one will latch. Does the LED for relay one go green? The estop cannot be triggered either so you have to sort that out first.

estop switch should be closed (has continuity and is closing the input) when everything is good.

do not use estop switches that are the opposite of this.

you can buy good quality ones from centroid here. https://shopcentroidcnc.com/shop/cnc-ac ... op-button/

or elcheapos here. https://centroidcncforum.com/viewtopic. ... 088#p73088

Thanks Shawn and Keith...

Sorry, I stated the Wrong Type of Estop...

It is a Dual Normally Closed Type as I purchase it from Centroid.

I changed the Setting in the Wizard and it is all back to working now including the Magnetic Contactor..

So now on to configure the DMM Dyn4 to the Acorn6.

I followed the Wiring Instructions for Acorn6 S15164
https://www.centroidcnc.com/dealersuppo ... 164.r1.pdf

and everything is wired like the drawing S15164 and the Single Phase Input from DMM on page
22 https://cnc4pc.com/media/mageplaza/prod ... 7-a10a.pdf

However, then I followed the Centroid Acorn6 Install Manual page 54 and Loaded The Drive Conf and everything
went Bad from there.
https://www.centroidcnc.com/centroid_di ... manual.pdf

Is there another Source of Instructions for setting up the DMM DYN4 drive with Acorn6 that someone can
point me to???

I have looked, but do not find anything of much use.

Best Regards,

Preston
