Two Y axis motors on Gecko G540

Hello,

I will appreciate any help with my new setup of a machine I recently purchased. The machine has 4 Nema 23 motors, one each for X and Z. The Y axis have two separate motors on each side (the one limit switch on on the Y axis is on one of the motor side).

I have a Gecko G540 and Acorn Controller. The G540 has four ports, XYZ and A. Is it possible to use the Y port for two motors? and keep the A axis for rotary? if yes, I would greatly appreciate any guidance on how wire the y motors and setup in the software.

Thank you so much for your help and guidance to any documents that may exist.

Sha.

Yes very possible. You will have to do hardware pairing. Search for the Pairing Guide and you will see the instructions.

You will need 2 limit switches in order to do auto squaring. Again, documented in the guide on how to setup limit switches for Auto Squaring.

No problem, and good luck. I am also running a G540.

If I understand the document correctly, the hardware pairing only requires one limit switch on the Y Axis and I also understand that it will Auto Home but not Auto Square the gantry.

Is that correct understanding?

And I also understand even if I have two limit / home switches on the either side of the gantry, in Hardware Pairing it will NOT auto square.

It is only possible to auto square if I use the 4th Axis on the controller.

Am I understanding it correctly ?

Thank you for all your help.

I believe that is the case.

In hardware pairing the motors are tied together essentially. Auto Square requires the motors to be able to move independently.

So you have to use the 4th axis for the Y slave motor if you wish to have auto square.

If you have auto square you will need 2 home switches for the Y.
