Hey there,

I just had to get this thread started to put some pressure on myself
Recently I acquired a very old but geometrically sound Weiler CNC with ancient Siemens controls.

As I am in the process of setting up a sort of community makerspace as a hobby, I need to be able to run this lathe asap as it's meant to pay a part of the rent I already have some jobs waiting for it, so every hour I wait for some mythical creature to appear that understands the old sinumerik 3t is basically lost money that I need for renting equipment to tear up concrete walls, replace ladders with staircases and so on...

Long story short: Here I want to document the process of turning this old lathe first in to a rudimentary workhorse for simple parts, and maybe at a later point go all out with more powerful components.

As most Germans here we came from Austria to take over the... ehm, I meant to say we followed uwe (suntravel) here who did a tremendous job at showing the possibilities of the acorn controls to a German audience

There's another Weiler rescue going on not far from you. Looks like a different model and it's going the Linuxcnc route.

Unfortunately the machine is running again xD so for now I have no excuses to earn the money fo4 a quality retrofit..

I had two of the three phase power supply wired "wrong"... stupid simple mistake

After updating to Acorn, you will think why you have waited so long....

There's a weiler ud24 with a 8 station turret on the way!
It's already ripped apart, so I'm glad I can concentrate on fitting new parts. And the best part is, the weiler 120 can keep running while I upgrade the new one

So @cncKeith.. what's it gonna be, new thread or new name?

Back to square one...

The control just broke down, so now I'm taking the opportunity to convert it with 4 axis acorn.

I tore the housing apart to take a look at the situation.

There are 3 dc servos with 3 encoders, lots of limit switches and 2 ballscrews.

I have 2 600w jmc servos with a power supply which I will use for the axis.

If I got it right I need:
For the spindle a 1500w jmc servo.
Software lathe pro
Centroid cnc board
Suitable pc
And some time to rework the existing pulley and got the motors of the flanges..

With this setup I hope to be able to cut my Morse tapers again and continue to make some money for better components such as encoders and so on..

Next step is to upload the pictures from my camera

Is it possible to reuse the existing encoders? There are 2 linde leine type 6306 5v 2500 pulse encoders for the axis and 1 1024 pulse for the spindle
