Cmos Battery dead

I have a CPU7 and my Cmos battery has died, when I looked to change it I found it is a chip rather than the standard coin battery.

The motherboard looks to be the Acrosser ARB-1564.

Is there a procedure for this problem?

1) I removed the chip and fitted a 24 pin IC socket.
2) I got a DS1287 chip through ebay fitted it to the socket and booted up the machine.
3) The system booted up and I set the cmos as per instructions from the tech info.
4) When re booted the settings were lost.

I assumed the new chip is not working/compatible, so decided to cut away at the old chip as per the link.

Luckily I found that the information regarding the pins for the battery are incorrect before I went to far.

I found that the DS1287 pin configuration is different to the chip I removed.

I was successful in disconnecting the on board battery in the chip and connecting an external battery.

After re assembling the computer and adjusting the cmos settings the machine now functions again.

My next question is, have you used the DS1287 chip yourself with any success? (maybe the ebay chip could be duff).

I would like to find a compatible chip as I have another machine that will probably suffer the same issue in time and grinding at the chip is not without risk.

Has anyone had success using the DS1287 chip?
