Some monitor Qs
Hey all, I've been looking at touch screen monitors for Acorn set up and I've decided to go with a smaller portable 15-inch format as I dont have a lot of room on the workbench for a larger monitor. I will put it on a monitor arm another reason I don't want a huge monitor.
1st question is, is there any downside to the smaller format when running and using CNC 12? I will be running both mill and lathe versions.
Apparently, these portable touchscreens use USB C for the touch feature of the monitor. I guess HDMI does not carry the touch signal? The PC I bought is slightly older and does not have a native USB C output. SO the question is will a standard 2.0 USB to USB C cable do the job to enable the touch functionality of the monitor.
last Q, these small portable monitors are not visa compatible for mounting so I need to make or find something I can attach to the back of the monitor to mount it to my monitor arm which is standard visa mounting holes. Does anyone know of a mount that can be added to the back? I could epoxy it on. These monitors only weigh like 2 lbs.

Re: Some monitor Qs
My first question to you would be is this 15 inch monitor you are considering a widescreen monitor? If not it won’t work. My second question would be does this “older PC“ meet the minimum standards for a CNC PC?

Re: Some monitor Qs
Yes it’s 16.9 1080 x 1920

The PC meets the minimum and beyond. Don’t remember what the rating was.

So you should be correct. If you have a Lenovo M92P Tiny, use the display port
I personally don't like your choice of monitor. I don't like the folding aspect.
If its a standard LCD it will have a VESA mount on the back. (I see no pictures of the back of that monitor)

Re: Some monitor Qs
Food for thought:
Early on I purchased a touchscreen to use with Acorn. I later purchased the wireless pendant and I no longer use the touchscreen. If I did this over I'd have just put the money I invested in the touchscreen towards the pendant.

Re: Some monitor Qs
As said Im going to do some sort of custom Visa mount if I can’t find one that u can add to a monitor without the mount holes.I’m going to just fold the bottom foot and tape it to the back. I will mount on a monitor arm.martyscncgarage wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 9:40 amUSB carries the touch signal.BillB wrote: ↑Sat Aug 28, 2021 4:36 pm Hey all, I've been looking at touch screen monitors for Acorn set up and I've decided to go with a smaller portable 15-inch format as I dont have a lot of room on the workbench for a larger monitor. Re: Some monitor Qs
Ya good point I’ve thought of that as well because I’m going to get the pendant to. I like to have both options and I don’t really have a good place for a mouse, the bench these machines are going on is limited on space. And you really can’t do everything on the pendant

Re: Some monitor Qs
You could always buy or build something like this and the mounting possibilities are endless. There are many variations of this type of mount. This way you can get a larger monitor that has a VESA mount on the back.

Re: Some monitor Qs
I have been considering my display and input options (specifically a touchscreen) for a new machine I am building, a Fiber LASER welder.
It appears there is no way to avoid haveing a keyboard since there is no on-screen keyboard presented when you select a text box. Since you need the keyboard anyway, and will likely have a pendant and/or a mouse, I do not see much value in having a touchscreen. I have installed the standard Centroid package of NUC + Touchscreen + Mouse + MPG on a lathe that I built a while ago but find that I rarely use the touchscren.
I would appreciate hearing other users comments on these interface choices.

You can enable an onscreen keyboard via the taskbar options, have numerous machines running without a physical keyboard
