Hello all.
I am new to the acorn world and this forum. So far setup has gone well. I do have a question about setting up 4 Hall effect home switches. These are normally closed so I have them wired up to the 24 volt tap. As for the switch output wires. Do they all need to be connected to separate inputs or can I parallel 3 of them to one input and then hook the slaved axis up to its own input for auto squaring? If so what settings do I use in the wizard.
Thank you
Bill

Re: Setup of Hall effect home switches
Bill,
Do you know if they are NPN or PNP sensors?
Do you have a model number/photo/link of the sensors?

These are the sensors on my machine.

Re: Setup of Hall effect home switches
That links to one of those perplexing datasheets that must have taken the author(s) many hours to compile and appears to tell you everything about the sensors - apart from the really basic and probably most important question - is this normally open (NO) or normally closed (NC). It's quite remarkable how something like this comes about, unless I need my eyes testing again. I guess the author knew what he meant.
I'd have to assume that it's most likely to be normally open ie the output goes low in the presence of the target magnet but that's only a guess, as many of these proximity switches are available in both flavours.
If it IS indeed normally open, you can parallel several of them together into one input. FWIW, the purists will point out that ideally they would be NC and others will suggest that 3-wire NC sensors can usually be made to work when connected in series. I'm relaxed about the first point for hobby use but disagree that the second is sensible practice and have yet to see a manufacturer recommend it.

Re: Setup of Hall effect home switches
I personally hate magnets around machines as they become contaminated with swarf in no time.
Cheers,
Tom

I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are where they should be.

Re: Setup of Hall effect home switches
Thank you for your reply. I agree about the basic info. In testing them the blue output wire has 24 volts on it without the presents of a magnet. When the magnet is placed in range the voltage goes away. I was thinking that they are NC but maybe I have it backwards.

Re: Setup of Hall effect home switches
There's a pullup resistor internally which also drives the LED when the output is low. This seems to be NO (high), going low when active, from what you say.

Re: Setup of Hall effect home switches
Ok, so if they are NO in the axis pairing manual is shows as you said that I can parallel the x,y and z together. The y slave will have its own input but in the available input labels it does not show a slaved y axis option in cnc12 version 4.64. What option would I use for these inputs?
Actually. I see that it is available if I select show all. I was on router inputs. Still does not home though.

Re: Setup of Hall effect home switches
It seems to be working correctly now after a reset. Thank you
I will post again if there are any issues I'm not sure of.
