Centroid does not recommend laptops since they have power conservation features that shut peripherals off at inopportune times.

The short answer is no. Buy and use a desktop PC.

Will my laptop work for a while until I can afford a comp?

Can someone give me some input on the least expensive but capable Intel Nuc computer?

Laptops are not recommended because of their power saving features that can unexpectedly turn hardware off on you while it's running. Use at your own risk.

Check your local Craigslist or eBay for a capable PC. I buy them locally all the time with Win10 Pro installed, 8GB RAM and a 120GB SSD for anywhere between $110 and $140 dollars depending on whether or not it has built in Wi-Fi. Check the CPU against the benchmark website to be sure it meets the single thread rating. The Intel NUC is an expensive option and certainly not required or needed.
