lathe probe\offset with boring bars

Post by rangerboy347 »

been testing touch probe its a renishaw with square stylus. so with the normal turning tools i think its working fine but when i probe a tool that's beyond x0 like a ID boring bar probes fine but the offsets are so far off its crazy. and i'm not sure why it wants a tool number for a probe when that's not how it works on a lathe??? another question when you place the probe and set it for x and z ref whats the best way? i got it by touching tool off and leaving it in x and making a skim cut to measure is that the best way or is there more ways?

so if i go into incremental and enter double my probe size seams to do the trick but only if i use FFace for tool type this is what i know so far any ideas

But only needed for boring tools well so far I've noticed

Not sure if it is the same issue I have with measuring boring bars;

I'm having to take subtract the diameter (X) of the touch off tool that I'm using for measuring as the tool measure doesn't account for it from the ref position. So I have to manually edit and double check the auto measure of boring bars.
Perimeter 281 is set to the diameter of the my probe (10mm, this was set by the wizard).

Actually, no my offsets for length do not auto measure if the tool is set as an ID. Same tool will measure correctly if it is set to FFace!

For those with a lathe that measuring a boring bar so the tool is the other side of your touch off tool diameter to the OD reference tool, are you using radius or diameter for your X system?

I'm using Radius so wondering if that has anything to do with having to subtract the diameter of my touch off from my measured X to get the correct offset?

I have the same problem. Offsets for length do not auto measure if the tool is set as an ID. Moreover, the offset of the reference tool is lost.

Centroid is taking a look at this. Checking to see if a bug crept back in.
Thanks for reporting it.
