Oak control with VCP and wireless USB MPG issue

Hello,

I'm new to Centroid controls. I began bench testing my Oak controller and was able to successfully complete the testing. After the bench test I decided to try to get the VCP to appear which I was able to do by changing parameter 219(iirc) to enable it. Once I had enable the VCP I cycled the software and hardware and then the VCP appeared although the buttons did not function. I also installed the wireless USB MPG pendent and followed the instructions that came with it and also referenced the tech bulletin 313 to insure I had set the parameter properly. At this point the VCP buttons and the MPG did not function and I began to believe that it was because of the PLC option that I selected during install. During PLC install I selected the PLC below because It most accurately described my machine. (slant bed lathe with 8 pos turret)

(Lathe Custom 8 Tool electric turret oak-lathe-8te-v2.src Basic Lathe PLC program for OAK with 8-tool turret)

I began to wonder if this PLC selection was not not correct to allow the VCP or USB MPG to function so I decided to install a different PLC to see if the problems would be fixed. So I installed:

(Lathe Standard Centroid-Lathe-Standard-OAK-r2.src PLC for ALLIN1DC w/ wireless MPG and VCP)

After the new PLC install I went back though the parameters again and at that point the VCP would function properly but the wireless MPG is still not functioning.

Does the operation of the wireless MPG rely on the PLC program? ( I have not yet tried to search through either of the PLCs looking for script for the MPG)

Thanks,
Wes

Hi Wes, not to sound harsh but you have not given enough information.
Please follow this post: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=383

It is important that you post a report file.

Did you load your license that allows you to use the Wireless MPG? It is required to use on Oak and All in One.

Hi Marty,

No harshness taken.

I have attached the current report which is with the second PLC installed. I went back through the bench test and now both USB MPG and VCP seem to be working as they should.

(Lathe Standard Centroid-Lathe-Standard-OAK-r2.src PLC for ALLIN1DC w/ wireless MPG and VCP)

Do you think I should just continue with this PLC or try to go back to the custom PLC due to the tool changer? Since the VCP and MPG are currently working with the standard PLC I might try the custom PLC just to try to see if the issue repeats.

Just for reference the machine is an Emco Turn 340TC with 8 position Sauter tool turret.

Thanks,
Wes

I'm wondering if they got the MPG and VCP in that particular PLC.
Thanks for posting the report. That was from the configuration giving you troubles right?

The report is from the standard PLC which both the VCP and USB MPG are working with.
I'll reinstall the custom PLC again and run another report.

Ya, we need the report from the configuration giving you troubles.
I have a hunch the PLC mods for VCP and Wireless MPG are not in it.

Here is the report file with the "custom" PLC loaded and setup to be able to complete the bench test.

for reference here is the description of the PLC.
(Lathe Custom 8 Tool electric turret oak-lathe-8te-v2.src Basic Lathe PLC program for OAK with 8-tool turret)

Using this PLC the VCP and USB MPG does not seem to function

Using the "standard" PLC the VCP and USB MPG does function. I'm assuming that I need to navigate the standard PLC to the VCP and USB MPG sections and copy/paste them into the custom PLC since it is setup for the tool changer?

Centroid confirmed the other PLC's don't have support for wireless MPG and VCP.
That said, if you send them your report file with the PLC you want to use, they will modify the PLC for you.

They are working on adding VCP and Wireless MPG support in their stock PLC programs.
