I watched Marty's video on retro fitting servo motors and in his video he connected the motor leads red to red and black to black. My Bridgeport Powertron motors have Black and White wires and the original schematic doesn't call the colors out or a + or -. Does it matter which gets hooked to the + or-?

Nope. You just want to make sure the motor is turning the same direction as the encoder is reading. When the motor turns counterclockwise, the encoder should be reading positive. If not, swap the two motor leads. See page 48 in the ALLIn1DC Install Manual

I'm sorry I didn't see it the first time I read it and I still don't see it.

You need to concern yourself with page 30 and 38 of the manual. (I think Tom mistyped)

What is your concern? My wires happened to be red and black because I used Centroid supplied cable. Yours are Black and White. I would assume Black to be +positive and white to be -negative.

But as Tom said, the most important thing is to make sure the motor rotation and encoder rotation match.
I had to flip my motor leads on one motor in my video series because I had a "runaway" that is, the motor turning one direction, but the encoder thinks it going the wrong direction. The control sees this and tries to bring the motor back into position...which it can't, so you flip the motor leads.

This is EXACTLY why you do all of this testing with the motors OFF the machine and un belted until told in the manual when to belt them to the machine. NOT until you can jog those motors successfully in the correct directions (and jog them forward and backwards) do you proceed.

Hope this helps!!
Marty

Ok. Now I got it and it makes sense. Thanks for the clarification. I appreciate it.
