Acorn CNC controller proLight 1000 CNC retrofit upgrade

Chris Itterly made this side by side video showing the Acorn CNC controller running his machine with a DRO connected to the machine as well which is displaying the actual machine position while he runs a test program with and without lash compensation so he could compare the commanded position against the actual position.

Left side is before lash compensation, right side is after.
Original, open loop, steppers from proLIGHT 1000 machining center / mini mill.

Showing Y Axis, 6" travel, results.
X & Z axis have very similar results.

Very happy how this turned out.
I believe the machine has positional accuracy of 0.0005", it will be interesting to see how well it holds dimensional tolerances on produced parts.

It's a bit mind blowing when you consider that level of accuracy is ~1/14 the diameter of a human hair. Additionally, the machine has no feedback system on position, it's entirely open loop.
