Motor tuning Problems

Post by dawizard »

I've spent several hours trying to tune the motors. It's a DC3IOB running mach3 with SEM motors (MTS30U4-48). I can get the machine to run fairly well at high feed rates and rapid by using very high kp (2.0) and kd (5.0) settings. When I program a light feed rate such as 4 ipm the motors start to sing . If I back off the settings the motors oscillate wildly at high speeds but run smooth at the slow feed rates. The jumpers are set to the proper current settings (15 amp). I have attached a screen capture at 120 ipm and another with the axis stopped. I backed off the settings to the minimum that keeps the axis from oscillating but the motors still sing .( the singing sounds like a fax machine sending data, very high pitch.) I have another machine with sem motors and they are very quite. If anyone has an idea what the problem is, please help.

dawizard,

What are the two sets of parameters you are using? What ranges have you tried?

Please take captures at fast and slow with each set of parameters and post all four generated text files. The text file name is shown in the top-left of the screen and is stored in Posting the text file will allow us analyze the data better. For example, the screen shot for the first image comes from Axis0-201009111319.txt in the c:\Mach3\Ajax folder.

In the plot program, for easiest understanding, you should only have Vexp and AbsError checked. For the tuning you are doing, the other information is not needed. Hit F9 to zoom-all once you un-check the other boxes. This will give you a better idea of what the motor is doing at a given velocity.

Thanks.
When requesting support, please ALWAYS post a current report. Find out how to take a report from your Acorn, CNC11 or CNC10 system here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ecvg0VJp1oQ.

If your question is PLC, Macro or program related, please also post a copy of the program or macro as well.

Without the above information we may not be able to help and/or reply until the required information is posted..

Finally have time to get back to this project. Do you need a copy of the .txt file or just the screen capture?
When feeding at a slower rate should I shorten the movement so you can see the start and finish?
