A few months ago, I bought the "Oak Board to Servo Drive Cable - Delta ASD-A/ASD-AB" (SKU 13131) from Centroid. I'm just now getting around to using them and noticed something I hadn’t expected.

I had assumed the cable's wiring to the 50-pin connector would match the Delta documentation for the ASDA-A2 drives. However, it appears the pin connections do not align with what’s shown in the Delta docs. The photos I’ve attached show:

The Delta and Syntec pinouts match each other, but the Centroid cable seems to use a different configuration.

What am I missing here? Was this cable intended for an earlier Delta model (ASD-A/AB only), and not the A2 series?

Regardless of where I went wrong, I now have 4 of these cables that I can’t use. If anyone here can use them, feel free to make me an offer.

As far as I know, the factory cables work just fine with ASDA-A2 drives.

Can you point out the particular pin connections that you think are wrong?

Note that the ASDA-A2 drives apparently have two sets of "pulse" and "sign" inputs. It appears that Syntec was using the "low speed optical coupler" inputs, while Centroid uses the "high-speed differential" inputs (HPULS and HSIGN).

Choice of digital inputs and outputs -- e.g. for drive-okay and brake-release -- is made through parameter settings. I would imagine that if you want to use the Centroid cables, then you will want to configure your drives per TB264:

It’s not that the cables wouldn’t work with a Centroid controller—I understand that they’re configured to use the high-speed differential inputs on the ASDA-A2 drives, as outlined in TB264.

The issue was entirely my misunderstanding. I had assumed that all the pins shown in Delta’s documentation would be connected through the cable’s 50-pin connector. I’ve attached an image highlighting what I had expected:

The yellow-marked pins are not connected in the cable.

The red-marked pins are ones I specifically need to have connected for my application.

This was my mistake for not reviewing Centroid’s cable diagram more closely before purchasing. The cables are well made—just not compatible with the signal inputs my system is configured to use.

At this point, I’m planning to sell the cables, since they don’t fit my application. If interested in buying please make an offer.

If you haven't used the cabels and they're still in perfect condition it shouldn't be a problem to return them.
