Directly change XYZ coordinates from main screen

Hello,
I'd like to be able to double click a DRO field on the main screen and type in what it should be. This would be an ideal workflow to, say, jog the z until a dowel pin can fit between the workpiece and the tool, and simply type in the dowel diameter into z.

If the DRO field is strictly read only, I suppose I am OK with a tiny update button that launches an input box over the field that is the same size, location, and look.

Any thoughts, rough attack plan ideas? Has anyone done this before?

For context, this UX is found on Siemens 804D controllers

yeah a CNC12 skin should be able to do stuff like that.
i had a similar idea mocked up for CNC12 some time ago. that idea got bumped into "we'll do that when we build a skin" and that time is getting closer!
