Nema 23 Closed Loop Stepper Motor Noice

Hi Everyone

I just want to get some advice
I recently purchased two Nema 23 Closed Loop Stepper Motors 3Nm

Today I wired them into the Acorn CNC and found the one are louder than the other one when testing motion
Is this maybe normal or must I take it back to the supplier and exchange it?

I have made a video and loaded on Youtube where you can clearly hear the difference in sound when moving them

All the settings are the same for both stepper motors and the Driver
Have even changed the wiring between Drivers to test that as well

Please advice

Thank you

Ruben

Try changing the microstepping. It's not horrible, need to work out if its mechanical or an electrical sound (sounds electrical to me).

Swap motors / drivers and see if the noise transfers.

Steppers have a certain 'ring' to them, this could be fairly normal.

The pine board they are sitting on could simply be resonating differently because of the irregularities in the wood. Not a real concern. Double check steps/rev settings and DIP switches on the drives. Are they running on the same power supply? Again, not a real concern.

If you are trying to see if a motor is noisy, you should swap the motor to driver connections. If the sound moves with the motor, then it is a motor issue, if the noise switches motors, then it is a driver or CNC12 configuration issue.

Thank you for the reply

I have tested in all different ways

Swop motor to the other Driver
Checked CNC12 settings are identical

I have also picked the motor up and hold in my hands and the one are still louder than the other one

Even if I switch power off and turn shaft with hand there are a difference in the sound

But if it's not too much of a concern I will continue to mount them and calibrate them and put to work
