Windows Defender Problem <resolved>

I have tried several methods to disable Windows Defender but it tends to periodically re-enable when I reboot my machine. I am running Windows 11 Home. I want to upgraded from CNC12 v4.64 to CNC12 v5.30. The procedure requires a reboot with specific instructions not to loose connectivity with Acorn at the risk of firmware damage. I am afraid the reboot will loose connectivity due to Windows Defender becoming enabled. Until I solve this I won't be able to upgrade my software and, therefore, won't be able to install the KP-1 probe I just purchased.

Can anyone help with this problem?
Thanks,

Also, I checked and cncm is already allowed as an exclusion from Windows Defender.
When I go into PowerShell and run the query
Get-MpComputerStatus | select AMRunningMode
If the response is "Not Running" - I have no problems
If the response is "Normal" - I have a problem

It is not asking you to reboot the pc, but power cycle the acorn board, has been my experience.

Ken is right, you generally only need to power cycle the Acorn not the entire PC.
These are the general steps you can follow when installing the newest version of CNC12:
1. Read the installation and upgrade guide: https://www.centroidcnc.com/centroid_di ... loads.html
2. Install the latest version of CNC12
3. Start CNC12 and wait for it to finish updating the firmware on the Acorn
NEVER power cycle the Acorn during step 3 even if it seems it's frozen.
4. Power cycle the Acorn and wait for heartbeat
5. Restart CNC12

If you haven't already I would recommend running our PC Tuner app on your CNCPC:
https://www.centroidcnc.com/centroid_di ... loads.html
This will setup firewall and other windows settings for you which may help with your windows defender issues.

Be sure to start 4.64 first and take screen shots of all the wizard pages. Then start the new install of 5.30 and use those screen shots to hand enter all your settings. You cannot restore a old report to 5.30

FYI, you can use a KP-1 with older versions of CNC12, there just will not be a Wizard option for quick setup.

You'd set it up as a "mechanical" probe with the input closed when tripped. Put another way, the control should be set up to treat the probe as Normally Open.
