Cannot Get ACORN to work with my small CNC machine
I have a CNC machine that was made in Germany by ISEL model # ICP 3020.
I have been unable to get the ACORN to start running the machine and I have attached the wiring I have designed and photos of the ACORN wiring.
Please let me know the mistake I have done.

Re: Cannot Get ACORN to work with my small CNC machine
Pls start with the benchtest like in the installation manual.
Wire one drive after another if the first one is working.

Re: Cannot Get ACORN to work with my small CNC machine
Biggest issue I see is that the "stepper" drives are not wired to Acorn correctly.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I see what appear to be stepper drives in the cabinet and those wire to the DB25 using a breakout board. They don't get wired to the Acorn headers like you have it. This is outlined in the install manual. Do you have a copy?
Tells us the model number of the drives and upload a CURRENT report from the machine so we can see your settings.
As Uwe pointed out, it's best if you wire up ONE drive at a time and get it working and then duplicate that setup for the other drives. Just throwing everything in the cabinet and wiring it up is not the correct approach. You could have several wiring errors or configuration errors and not even know where to start troubleshooting. That's why there is a "bench test" procedure. Also outlined in the manual.

Re: Cannot Get ACORN to work with my small CNC machine
The stepper motors are made by Nanotec and part number is ST5818M3008 and there is an attached PDF regarding the stepper motors I have.
The driver is a ST-M5045 and I have shown my wiring in the drawings I have attached.
I hope this info will help the info to show what I have done.

Re: Cannot Get ACORN to work with my small CNC machine
Those drives need to be wired to the DB25 using a breakout board because they are 5v drives. They wont work properly connected to the headers like you have it.762x51 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 04, 2025 1:15 pm The stepper motors are made by Nanotec and part number is ST5818M3008 and there is an attached PDF regarding the stepper motors I have.

Follow this schematic and report back. Wire up ONE drive and get it working. Set the step/rev to either 1600 or 3200 in the Acorn Wizard and the DIP switches on the drive.

Re: Cannot Get ACORN to work with my small CNC machine
Adding to my post, you should not daisy chain the 5v logic power from one drive to the next as it's wired now. That's bad practice and not recommended ever. The 5V terminal for both step and direction should be home run back to the 5v logic power supply on each drive.

Re: Cannot Get ACORN to work with my small CNC machine
ShawnM,
I have done what you requested but the system still doesn't work. The green/red things are still in red and not in the Green they should be.
I have tried connection just one step drive and they still will not run.

Re: Cannot Get ACORN to work with my small CNC machine
I have no idea what you mean by the "green/red" things. LED's on the Acorn or on the drive? Post a pic of the new wiring on the drive. Did you follow the diagram I posted exactly? The drives are wired the the DB25, yes? using 5v, yes?
When you power it up are the motors locked?
And upload a current report from the machine so I can see your settings.

Re: Cannot Get ACORN to work with my small CNC machine
Try not connecting the enables, many of these kind of drives are enabled by default, and the recommendation is to not connect them.

Re: Cannot Get ACORN to work with my small CNC machine
I have checked ALL of it's wiring and I changed the +5 VDC connections to the ST-M5045 motor driver to the +5 VDC for PUL+ DIR+ and ENA+
You can see the new connections I have made, and asked to do, in the photo I have attached.
Also, in the 2nd photo you can see that the LCD's monitoring the H2 and H3 connections for the X, Y, and Z stepper motors NANOTEC ST5818M3008.
I think the only thing to do now is disconnect the ACORN and remove it and package it for sending it back to Centroid so it will hopefully find what problem it has. I hope they will tell me what's wrong.
Please send me a comment and request for what I should do. - THANKS!!
