Tool Height probe wiring troubleshooting

Post by frankljs »

Using :
All in 1 dc.
1. centroid probe cable to the board. Pn11211
2. Using the inverting cable pn: 15128 with stereo audio barrel plug end cutt off and wired directly to the two wires on the probe. The sheild/ ground isnt connected to anything seeing there is no wire for it on my probe for ground.
3. Aftermarket Normally closed probe. Two wires yellow and green for probe signal. Two more wires red and black for over travel signal.(estop basically)

All parameters configured based on TT4 instructions in params.

Testing When attempting a zero reference auto measure and the probe is unplugged the system recognizes that there is no proBe.
“Make sure the probe is connected.” Message does appear whenever it’s unplugged.

With the probe connected and attempting an auto measure test, when I press cycle start, it attempts to run the probe cycle but no movement happens. Whenever I manually depress the touch probe, zaxis starts to move down. Whenever I select the switch again, it completes the cycle and retracts.
I have to initially hold down the probe in order for the Z axis to move down.
The touch probe only has two wires for the first switch and two more for a over travel switch. Total of 4 wires for two switches.
I swapped the two wires connections on the initial switch to see if would make a difference and the same result happens. No change.
Is this wired wrong or do I need to change a setting somewhere?

Clarifying auto measure behavior. Press Cycle start, z axis does not move but can hear servo motor “initialize”. Gently depress probe, then z axis slowly moves down. I release my pressure on the switch, zaxis retracts and cycle completes. It act as if it detects the probe, but maybe normally open behavior. Idk im just spit balling.

Use the Alt-i PLC Diagnostic display.

Press F12 nine times, to page right until you get to the page that includes INP769 and INP771.

With your probe disconnected, what color is INP769, and what color is INP771?
With your probe plugged in and not tripped, what color is INP769, and what color is INP771?

If memory serves, which I will confirm tonight. While plugged in both lights were green while plugged in. when depressed the 69 turns red. when disconnected both lights are red again I will confirm this when I get home tonight.

Also, in the TT4 instruction manual, it said to change param 44 to 50769 and 257 to 50772, which I did. INP771, which you mentioned above, i have not adjusted. However, i will look at it its behavior tonight.

Sorry, I forgot that we were talking about a tool setter, and not about a spindle probe.

Assuming you started with a TT4 cable (and not a KP3 cable), then the "detect" circuit should show up on INP772 (not INP771).

Assuming that it does, you should set P257 = 50772.

With probe disconnected 769 is red. and 772 is red.
When Probe is connected 769 is green, and 772 is green.
When probe is pressed, both 769 and 772 become red.

You will need to go back to the drawing board with your wiring design, and maybe consult with Centroid, or review the diagrams in the KP3 manual.

If the "flipper" circuit in the cable plug were able to do its job correctly, then INP769 would be red when the tool setter is connected and not tripped, and green when the tool setter is connected and tripped.

If your detect circuit were wired correctly, then INP772 would turn green when the tool setter was connected, and would remain green even when the tool setter was tripped.

Ok, so the inverting cable basically isn’t inverting for some reason. I was hoping that with the centroid cables it would work. Ok. So the alternative is wiring it into the I/O board and then programming?

OK, so I wired the tool height probe into input eight. Where do I begin with programming the inputs and the software to behave like a touch probe? Is there a thread on this already or something that can get me started? Thanks again for the help.
