File Sharing Between Acorn and PC

I understand that it is best practice to keep the computer running Acorn disconnected from the internet.
For some time, I used Bluetooth to transfer file from my PC running Fusion to the PC running Acorn. This worked effortlessly until today when I got an error saying I do not have credentials to access the computer running Acorn. I spent two hours trying all sorts of Windows permissions maneuvers with no luck.
Just curios if there is some other simple way to share files and also want to make sure that it is still not a good practice to simply use Wifi and have both computers connected to the internet?

Hi Richard,
I'll be referring to the PC running the acorn as the "CNCPC".
There actually isn't any reason you need to have the CNCPC disconnected from the internet. In fact we recommend that you do have it connected to the internet for various things like ease of updating CNC12 or for the ability of us to TeamViewer into your PC if you need technical help.
I would recommend connecting the CNCPC to the internet one way or another. This opens up the previous possibilities I mentioned as well as many more options for sharing your files between the PCs.

Thans so much!
I can connect it to the internet in a moment and share files easily.
Am I confusing something. I thought I read that it should NOT be connected to the internet so there are no background tasks that interfere with CNC12? I believe I also read to turn off Windows updates.
If I keep it connected to the internet, then I would have to install Norton on that machine, which may interfere with Centroid.
Please let me know the best way to proceed.
Richard

Correct Richard, it's widely known on this forum to leave the CNC PC
disconnected from the internet UNTIL YOU NEED TO for the reasons that CentroidFrog mentioned. There are countless people who forget to optimize their PC and if your PC decides to "automatically" do a Windows update without your knowledge it can screw things up.
I keep a Wi-Fi dongle next to my PC for when I need internet but it's always disconnected to prevent any unwanted changes. Especially those .NET updates. I simply store files on a thumb drive to move from my CAD/CAM PC to the CNC PC. Your mileage may vary but I dont need to surf the web while my CNC is running. I can't even walk and chew gum at the same time.

You could also use a NAS ( Network Attached Storage ) for both PC's to access files on. TrueNAS is free and can be installed in an old PC if you have one lying around. Then you just set up access rights for each user and appears as a networked drive on your computer.
As far as Wi-Fi, your wi-fi router or Access Point may be able to handle multiple wi-fi networks. Depending on how much time and effort you want to put into configuration, you could have two wi-fi networks, one with access to the internet, one without, then log into the one with internet access when needed. Of course this does take planning and some configuration to block the IP addresses/traffic of the second network to internet access. It just depends upon what the benefit is for your situation.

Oh boy, my brain hurts just reading that.
A thumb drive is preferred choice and I dont need to worry about network permissions.

I am going to look again at why my Bluetooth option suddenly stopped working. It was working flawlessly, then suddenly started asking for username and password to access the shared folder. As a newbie... I tend to make changes in Fusion as I work on a project, so sharing files in this fashion is a big plus.
I am a bit confused with the NAS option. I understand that it works like a hard drive that is shareable across the network, but in order to have access to the NAS, I would have to connect to the network via WIFI on the CNC12 machine. Once connected to WIFI, the machine would be once again connected to the internet. What is the secret?

LOL
Uwe... Now you have me confused. How are you posting from the CAM PC to the CNCPC if they are not connected to WIFI and therefore the internet?
