M15 Z Bump generating a 907 Error

Post by swiehe »

Background

I have a new CNCDepot ATC spindle. When the tool clamp opens or closes, it causes the tool holder in the spindle to move around .125 which has been flexing the tool rack.

To fix the problem I added a .125 incremental move in the M15 and M16 macros

M94 /15 ;Turn on ToolUnclamp request
G91 ;SJW Incremental Mode
G00 Z.125 ;SJW Lowers Z .125
G90

The M15 and M16 macros work fine when run individually.

When I try to use them as part of the M6 macro, the M15 fails and gives me a 907 error. A picture is attached.
If I comment out the G91/G00 and G90 lines out of the M15 macro, the M16 macro runs as it should. (giving me the Z incremental move).

The 907 error is after the Z does a retract to Z0 and the gantry moves to the new tool location

I'm stumped as to what's happening. Looking for advice.

Thanks in advance

Steve
p.s. I tried to include a report but the forum software is blocking me. It will be in the next post.

what is the Z machine coordinate position when the G91G0z.125 is issued?

and looking at the report.zip

.32 revs per inch for X and Y and .78 for Z ? holy moly. review this post. https://centroidcncforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=8649

photos of your project please. make photo album and post link.

It’s a 10 year old CNC Routerparts/ Avid Pro 4x8 with servo on it. I’m in the process of finishing the upgrade from steppers and Mach4 with a PMDX controller to servos and Centroid. I didn’t use their control box for a variety of reasons. The control box was built by Gary Campbell

I had calculated and confirmed the steps a week or so ago and I thought it was all correct. I’ll look maybe I posted an old report by mistake. The machine coordinates and movement measure out, or at least they did a week or two ago.

Did I set something up incorrectly?

With respect to your earlier question. The error appears when z is at the top of the Z axis (z=0.0) I was expecting it to be above the tool forks (approx z=-5.5 ish). I thought by modifying the MFunc15 macro the z movement would happen before the M6 macro moves to pick up the new tool. I can post a video.

The M16 move happens right above the forks.
I’ll post a photo album tomorrow buts it’s a pretty stock CNC Routerparts machine. Nothing fancy.

G91 G00 Z.125. does not lower the spindle, it raises it. If you are already at the Z home position, you cant raise anymore, hence the limit error.
Cheers,

Tom

According to your report, your G30 Z position is at machine zero.

Line 149 of your M6 macro moves Z to the G30 position.
Line 151 moves X and Y over the new tool.
Line 153 calls M15 to open the drawbar.

So you are calling M15 while Z is at machine zero. Your travel limits do not permit moving any higher than that.
