upgrade requirements from CNC11 v3.16 to CNC12

It's been a while since I've messed around with my Centroid mill conversion (no time during summer months); but I am nearing the point where I am going to retire from my day job, and with that I will lose access to the Haas VF-3 I run to do my "government" work. My Trak DPM conversion runs, but there are several things that need tweaking...including getting my 4th axis fully functional.
What advantages would I have by updating to the current CNC12 release of the software from my existing CNC11 V3.16? Is it just for wireless MPG and Virtual Control Panel support? (I have a wired MPG that I am satisfied with, not sure what the VCP gains me over the Operator's Control Pendant that I already have) If I decide to do so, is there a TSB to explain the process? I thought I read somewhere some time back that there's an intermediate step I have to perform to get from V3.16 to CNC12 V5.xx. And, if I understand correctly, there will be a cost to doing so ($299.00)
If there's no compelling reason to upgrade to CNC12, should I update CNC11 to the latest (V4.16?) version that doesn't cost anything?
Short term goal:
1) 4th axis rotary (already have the additional axis drive installed; still fighting some setup parameter issues--axis moves but unable to successfully home the Hardinge 5C indexer)
Long term goals:
2) add glass scale to quill and implement Z/W axis summing
3) add spindle position encoder to implement rigid tapping
4) add probing functionality

You should be able to do most of what you want using CNC11 v3.16, or optionally CNC12 v4.14.

I upgraded to CNC12 pro about 4 years ago to get the probing. The CNC11 probing add on was $800 whereas the CNC12 pro upgrade that includes probing was $299. Made no sense to pay $500 more to add probing to CNC11. Best to call them to see what current pricing is. CNC12 will run just fine on Win7, and was rock solid for me. Centroid does not support it on Win7 and recommends Win10 which sucks, but it works.
