Tool Offset Library Question

Post by OG1 »

I have been using CNC12 for a long time now and am upgrading to 5.20 and just realized I am clueless on a parameter in the Tool Offset Library.

For the last row for diameter I have always inputted the actual size of the tool so if using a 1/2 end mill then .500. On my drill I leave it blank (0.0000).

If I add a new tool and forget to input the actual diameter will this effect my machining?

On that note, Say I want to take an additional .005 from the cut would I change this to .5050 run it then when done put it back to .500?

I am sorry for the probably dumb questions that have been asked a million times. I searched and could not find the answer which I am sure is here.

The radius entered only influences the program with radius compensation

So does this mean leaving fusion in the default of computer then no compensation is done so that field does not matter at all in CNC 12?

I really appreciate it!

There are two compensation methods. Diameter and wear. In diameter compensation, the edge of the part is programmed and the control offsets the tool path by 1/2 the tool diameter entered in the table

For wear compensation, the centerline of the tool path based on the nominal tool diameter given the CAD system. The tool offset is then used to adjust the part sized based on if it is over/under size. The tool table "diameter" is then the amount over or under usually only a couple of thousandths.
Cheers,

Tom

Correct. In that case (no G41/G42 codes in your CNC program) you might want to put the full nominal cutter diameter in the offset library, solely so that the Runtime Graphic display in CNC12 draws a yellow circle of the correct size.

Thank y'all very much. I do have the diameters in but have an ER32 I use for multiple purposes and change them and wanted to be sure in case I forgot.
