WCS G54 Z axis not correct after setting part Z axis

I have a problem with setting my part. I've set my tool offsets using a 123 block and Z REF" FIXED HOME. After touching off with tool one on my part surface and hitting F10 it gives me an offset the height of my 123 block.... Ive tried all the other methods of setting my part with the same results. Shouldn't WCS#1 G54 (which i'm using) reflect a negative number (the distance from Z home to the part surface)?
I've been down this rabbit hole for a week trying to find info on this with no luck.

My machine is a PM-30MV running an Acorn and CNC12 5.20.

Thank you, Kevan

Where was the tool, relative to the part surface and the 123 block, when you took each of those two screen pictures?

The tool was on top of the part.

I would have to guess that something went wrong in your order of operations. It almost looks like you used the 123 block while setting the part zero, and not while measuring the tool offset.

Your H1 tool offset is ca. -11.4", which would appear to be the distance down from home to the surface of the stock. If the block is ca. 2.5" high, and you touched the top of the block when you were in the Offset Library (F1/Setup -> F2/Tool -> F1/Offset, then F2/Measure) I would have expected the tool height offset to be ca. -8.9".

With tool 1 in the spindle, and showing Machine Coordinates on the DRO (Alt-D), Is it indeed ca. 8.9" down from home to the top of the block, and ca. 11.4" down from home to the surface of the stock?

Or is it only ca. 6.4" down from home to the top of the block?

From home its -8.9 to the top of the part and 11.4 to the 123 block on my bed.

sounds like you are mixing Part Zero with Tool height measurement? check out Adam's video above for his explanation.
its good idea to keep them as two separate operations as i also explain in this very old video as well.

I've watched it, Ill watch it again. Maybe I missed something. Shouldn't the Z height be recorded in the WCS G54 Table as the distance from in my case Z home as a negative number?

Thank you for the reply I appreciate any help I can get.

Kevan

please be specific, when you say "Z height" do you mean the tool length? or the part Z aero location?

do you have internet connection at the CNCPC?
