system folder

Post by Ken Rychlik »

With the ability to have the buttons directly run a file from the system folder it is more user friendly than going back to a skin event linked to a macro. The issue is that the system folder only has a few things in it when you save a report. I have been saving the system folder along with a report.

If the entire system folder contents could come along with a report it would be very helpful.

Please don't include the entire contents of the system folder in every report.

That is as bad as including every last button from the VCP folder in every report, even though very few -- if any -- are custom for the current machine.

There are a large number of files in the system folder. The vast majority of them came with CNC12, and will not have been modified by the user.

Find a way to identify only those files which have been, or at least probably have been, modified by the user. Include only those files in a report.

The xml macro line for VCP buttons can run a file from anywhere, not just the system folder.

system folder is intended for centroid stock macros for use with CNC12. They are not restored by the report as it may overwrite updated files installed with CNC12.

in addition, they are saved by the report will just not be restored automatically, can be found under the urf.zip in the report.

Correct, I run button macros from a separate macro folder I created and include that folder in my custom backup script that grabs only the files I need for a fresh install that cannot use a report. Which is pretty much every install. :D

Chris, can you give an example of a button script needed to run a macro from the macro area? Not a numbered macro, but one with a name.
If it would restore them with a report that way, that would solve my issue. I have looked in the system folder of a report and they are not being saved.

Thanks
Ken
